So, I'm one of those dreaded XBOX 360 users who will be invading your guy's world in the near future. Since they are allowing us to take our beta characters with us, I am coming to you as a level 30MNK/19DRG/15WAR/1RNG.

One of the things that many people don't realize is that while most of us are spending our hard earned gil on item to sell on the new servers, we are also spending an aweful lot of time farming and, at least for myself and some of my friends, I'm completing as many gil quests as possible... especially the Selbina Clay ones. Why? Well, because you get the same amount of gil no matter what server you're on... Hydra or Shiva, but on Hydra, 10,000gil buys me an aweful lot more merchandise than it will on Shiva. Therefore, I can turn a 10,000gil quest into 30 or 40 thousand gil relatively easily. A stack of wind crystals sells for under 1000gil on Hydra. I'm also farming beehive chips, silk thread, bat wings, various seeds, etc to bring along with me.

There is a very good chance that Shiva will get a lot of the XBOX 360 migrants because there are only two servers listed on the first page of the world migration list and Shiva is one of them.

Also, woodworkers may like this, but logging areas are not crowded at all on Hydra so a lot of people have been doing nothing but logging to save and sell on the new server. I capitalized on this a bit by going to Carpenter's Landing to buy hatchets for 315gil each and then putting them in my bazaar, I go to Ghelsba and just leave my character sitting there overnight or while I'm at work. Always, I return to find three dozen hatchets sold for 600gil each... a profit of roughly 10,000gil. Not bad for 15 minutes of setup before I got to bed or go to work.

Anyway, enough rambling. I'm looking forward to the migration. Hopefully you guys are welcome of us newcomers... some servers certainly aren't.

Hahaha, what you do with hatchets is what I did with Pickaxes back in my newbie days. I was big on Bastok quests, maxed my fame and got them for 180/each at a Bastok NPC. I bazaar'd them for 200/each overnight every night. Would sell them all, not much profit at all but back then I was like "OMG GILZ!" lol

I hope Shiva is good to you.

its good that youre posting here as i have a few questions for the 360 users.

1. Are you new to FFXI or just new to the 360 version?
2. if you have played it on another platform, how does it compare?
3. what was the population of hydra at any given time during the day?
4. was claiming NMs pretty easy?
5. can you buy me a haubergeon from your server and ill pay you back on this one? lmao (only half kidding >.> )

anyway i hope you do choose shiva as your new home. we're sort of behind as far as big accomplishments and relic weapons and whatnot (well at least the NAs are). but at the same time we're probably one of the most relaxed and drama free servers out there. good luck to ya and i hope to see you around ^^

Last I heard Serket sat unclaimed for days and days on Hydra. Unless there are some hardcore players that re-made char's and leveled up fast I doubt too many high-end items are around.

However, they could bring a number of O.Kote's and Fuma Kyahan's back...
#6 Apr 03 2006 at 2:55 AM Rating: Good
man...what a fortune if you really could farm O. Kotes all day haha

1. Yes, I am new to FFXI. I have been playing now for about three months. Actual playtime is somewhere around 15 days.

2. I have not played on a computer, but I have heard it compares favorably to the PC version. The Xbox 360 is, after all, a computer that looks like a console. The Xbox 360 has voice chat through Xbox Live. I'd assume PC players use voice over IP for voice chat. I don't think PS2 has access to voice chat but I could be wrong. I have a wireless keyboard that I use in addition to the controller. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the gameplay.

3. /sea all usually turned up between 2,000 and 3,000 players at any given time. Beta discs were limited so there may be a lot more players when the final version comes out.

4. NM camping was relatively easy with some exceptions. The Spook usually had 15 people camping it although I honestly don't know why. The traveler's mantle didn't sell for that much on Hydra. You could farm crawlers all day long with little competition and make a lot more gil than camping the spook. I'm bringing four stacks of silk thread with me to Shiva, along with four stacks of beehive chips and four stacks of honey. Not sure how or what they sell for on Shiva but it should net me enough seed money to get started. Orcish Barricader and Wallbreacher were camped pretty heavily. I tried camping them... got one claim and said, "to hell with this." lol. The only other NM I camped was Leaping Lizzie for the Leaping Boots.

5. Sorry, I didn't get back to this post until today and the beta ended early this morning. In any event, the AH was nearly empty this weekend as people were feverishly trying to obtain loot to bring to the new servers. Oddly enough, there was almost no competition farming crawlers. I had an easy time getting my silk thread.

There were some high level characters... mostly Japanese players, but you're right about there not being many high level items around. Even items like purple belts were in short supply. Purple belt was selling at the AH for around 60k. I've heard it's a lot cheaper on the older servers. Same thing with courage rings. They were selling for something like 40k on Hydra. There were also very few crafters above lvl 30 in any craft as far as I could tell.

One last thing... the beta version came fully loaded with CoP and Zilart. The Xbox360 retail version will include both of these expansions as well as Treasures of Aht Urhgan. I have heard that PS2 is missing a lot of the PC features but the Xbox360 version is suppose to contain all of the PC content.

sounds good to me guys. look me up if you have any questions when you gethere. i like seeing new faces around shiva.
#12 Apr 04 2006 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
I for one thing will be happy to see all the new faces on Shiva. I'm sure you may get a little bit of hazing for being the new guys ... but i can bet that collectivly as residents we want you here ^-^. Its still cool to see people get excited about these begining things in the game again. It\s almost as if towards engame people start to become jaded .... but thats an entirely different story altogether. I love new people b/c they remind me of why i fell in love with this game in the first place. So it will be good to see you.

If you have any questions send a /tell to Casey when you get around i'd love to help ... Just do yourself a favor though and think for a second before you ask a level 75 whm for a Powerlevel ...

lol... too bad the Beta is over. I tried to get bounding boots... they're the ones dropped by the Petrifying Pair, right? BCNM30 in Ghelsba? Well, my party wiped twice. That baleful gaze is a b**ch. I'm not planning on going to Shiva rich... just enough merchandise to get some seed money. Thanks for the advice. -- Malidar

bounding boots are rare/ex. rare meaning you can only hold one of that item. ex means exclusive. that means the item cannot be traded or sold. Bounding boots are dropped from a notorious monster called leaping lizzy. the item it dropped used to be called leaping boots and was worth quite a lot. because of gilsellers camping this monster a lot the item was made rare/ex. the empress hairpin is dropped from the valkurm emperor in the dunes. this is also a rare/ex item for the reasons mentioned above. the original item was called the emperor hairpin which sells now for 4-5 million if i remember right.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself and read up on my soon to be new home; Shiva. I too am a beta tester migarating from Hydra. This was my first mmorpg and I must say that I am completely hooked! Until the beta ended, I didn't even consider playing another game. I pre-ordered GRAW and Oblivion and didnt even bother removing the plastic until the end of days arrived. The crazy thing is as much as I had anticipated these releases, I just am not capable of getting into them that much. My sessions are usually less than 1 hour and leave me yearning for FFXI. IMO, this is a testament to the incredibly high replay value of this game. Is it 4/20 yet?!? I will be coming to Shiva as a 33whm, 16blm, 20smn and am looking forward to saving anyones skin who just might need it. I never charge for a raise and dish out cures, protectII, and shell liberally. I am a very laid back player who enjoys helping out when I can. It's all about the karma! Oh, my player name is Dontay. Cya soon.
