BLM AF3 hat run - and other AF3sFollow

#1 Oct 07 2005 at 1:25 PM Rating: Good
I am organizing a run for this weekend.

Who: BLMs, DRKs with souleater, any and all PLDs or others with Spirits Within weapon skill, anyone else wanting to help or needing their AF3
What: BLM AF3 - hat run, followed by MNK AF3 and any other AF3 runs
When: Sat. Oct. 15 - 3:00 pm central (GMT -5)
Where: Toraimarai Canal, meet in Jeuno, we'll go via the Horroturo Ruins entrance (being from Windy I have a portal charm for the 3-mage gate)
Why: so I will be a Paragon of Black Mage Excellence! (and get a great piece of gear)

Additional Info:
We realistically need a 2-party alliance or some 70+ players, hopefully with a few one-handed sword wielders (w/ 175 skill for spirits within), a couple DRKs w/ souleater, 1-2 whm, and a few blms and smns. It is highly resistant to magic damage - accounts of casting Ancient Magic are that it usually hits for less than 200. Of course, high lvl BLMs might have slightly more success w/ teir IV spells. It spams BioIII and Drain and Aspir - even though it only has 3000 HP, it's resistance and replenishment of HP can make it difficult. The spirits within folks should build TP to 300% before engaging the NM.

I have done everything in Tor. Canal solo up to and including spawning the Magic Sludge (with sneak on) - that way, the final group only needs to go to the NM pop, spawn it one more time, and after killing it get the cutscene; this also means my 2-hr is available again. This method has been confirmed by others in the quest description link above. IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED ANY OTHER BLMs THAT NEED THE HAT DO THIS PRIOR TO THE RUN (it's pretty easy, just follow the AF guide exactly) - however, if we need to do the song and dance for other BLMs, it doesn't take too much extra time (maybe 10 or 15 minutes).

We will be doing other AF fights immediately following this (especially MNK, then maybe WAR, THF, and/or PLD, time permiting). Any other BLMs needing this, or anyone else on their AF3 quest, please join us and we'll get 'er done. However, we are only doing NM fights: no coffers or keys, no running around getting items, etc. You need to have done all the prep work and pre-requisites leading up to the NM fight. Afterward, if we have time, and there are enough people interested in helping, we can move on to other tasks, but I do know some people have dynamis Saturday night.

Current list of people (will be updated if more people post):
Me - 59 BLM
Sophus - 60-something RDM
Nuzorina - 65 BST
Jae - 75 SAM and 60ish MNK - also bringing friends
Wakkawakka - 58 BLM
Spd - 71 BLM
Aurellia - high-50s BLM
Gylfie - 59 BLM

We could use more people with Spirits Within, and a WHM, although Jae will be bringing other friends along, so we should be set. This event has no linkshell boundaries - let's all join together and put aside any personal differences to help each other out. If you can come, please post below with your job and level.

Thank you.

I need this hat also and have people to help as well. I would ask you to tag along with us, but I am not sure that would fly to well with one member in your group. Smiley: frown

Well, Kramer, I knew you'd been leveling BLM and thought you might need it, so that's why I put in that blurb about putting aside differences. I'm still amazed at how much animosity there is between players and the LS vs LS competition on the server.

I'd be willing to join you on your run, but I will still hold the event on the 15th even if I already happened to complete it earlier. I don't know if you had already planned something, but this weekend is basically out for me (out of town guests), but I am available 7:30pm - 10:00pm central next Tues, Wed., or Thurs. I might also be on a little bit this Sunday, but I don't know yet.

I'd love to be able to help but I don't have Toraimorai Canal access and I have zero fame in Windurst (can't stand the place to be honest with you).

I did this Saturday night, even without a tank and all the undead respawning and linking during the fight, and we still won with no deaths and even got the 130k viking axe drop off the scorp in the room.

Our set up was:

75 Mnk/Nin
71 Mnk/War
73 Rdm/Nin
70 Blm/Whm
69 Blm/Whm
60 Blm/Whm
60 Blm/Whm
59 Blm/Whm

Was an easy fight, even with 3 undead, a scrop, and the NM all at same time with no tank that had provoke.

Just to clarify about getting into Toraimarai Canal - citizens of Windurst are able to get a key to unlock the "back door", which is through Horoturo Ruins. This door is also known as the "3-mage gate" as it can be opened by a WHM, RDM, and BLM standing on the portals, or it can be opened solo by someone with a portal charm. I have this portal charm ("key"), and we are going this way since it is a more direct route to the NM. You do NOT have to have finished the Blue Ribbon Blues quest - that is for access through the "front door" from Windurst Walls. So if anyone wanted to help, but thought they couldn't, then I'd ask you to please reconsider.

Thanks for your info Kramer. Only 1 spirits within? I'd still prefer more than that, but I'm sure the group we have with a couple more will do just fine. Grats on the axe drop :p I'm hoping Nuzorina can charm the Girtab to use against the sludge.

Magic Sludge = a Dark Elemental. I know I thought Sludge meant it was a slime also. Yeah our Rdm did not even use Spirit's With in on it, he was half asllep seeing it was 4am when we did this, pretty much the 2 Monks beat it to death while the rest of us handled the Undead and Scorp links.

ps: One of the Blms in my LS who helped said they had a Nin/War solo it for them. It really is not a hard fight, people on Alla just seem to act like things are harder than they actually are when they post strategies.

Yep I already knew that - I've spawned it once, and I linked to all the research I did in my OP, including a pic of the mob - I even described how it's supposed to spam BioIII, Drain, and Aspir.

Count me (lvl 58blm) and Spd (lvl 71blm) in. :-)

We're on GMT, so I can stay till about 6 pm central to help others with AF. Hopefully that'll be enough to finish monk AF too?

Thanks Wakka - updated your and Spd's info. BLM shouldn't take more than an hour, and I'd guess each job's AF after that will take roughly 1 hour. So... if we have 3 hours (3pm - 6pm central) we should be able to get 3 jobs done. MNK will be the 2nd NM we do for sure. After that, it depends who is there, although I believe either WAR or PLD is next in line (nomadic did you get your stuff done?).

We have plenty of people coming to do this successfully without fear of death or failure. So really, it's just a matter of whether anyone else needs BLM or MNK or another job's AF3, or if they just wanna tag along for the fun of it.

It wouldn't hurt to be in Jeuno 15-30 minutes before the scheduled start time. Hopefully if everyone is there we can even leave earlier.

Thanks everyone who's doing this!

Clarification of Time Zone:

Technically, US Central standard time is GMT -6; however, we're currently in daylight savings until the end of this month, pushing us an hour ahead and making us GMT -5.

So the event is set to begin at 8pm GMT. Just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped with this, and congratulations to everyone who is now a Paragon of BLM or MNK excellence!
