Even though Blue Mage looks fun as hell, from the pure nature of the class, it seems like SE's going to ***** them over too. Think about it, everyone who has ever had a blue mage in a FF game knows that they have to get hit with and SURVIVE the attack to learn the ability. This would mean the blue mage would have to get hate, and unless thier weapons have the delay of a thieves and damage of dark knight, it won't happen at higher levels to learn the more impressive weapon skills. Furthermore, if SE makes it to where Blue Mages can only act once they have 100% tp...

They can do some things with this job to make it absoultely amazing. But it's also very easy to ***** it over as well.

I'm probably going to level it anyway just because of the AF.

If the BEM gets screwed over as well, I'll happily welcome it into our little world. Thieves dragoons and Blue Mages unite!

Ok, I swear to God (which incedentally is myself) that if somebody mentions that one more time I'm gonna kill people.

Blue Mage will use MP to cast/use/whatever their monster abilities. Because it's damn tradition. Just because monster abilities in this game are based upon TP, doesn't mean crap.

For instance, look at earlier Blue mages in previous Final Fantasy games.
They all used MP to cast monster abilities. Always. In some games, a monster ability was just an ability, it didn't use MP of their own (for instance, using MP damaging attacks or spells, like in FF6's Rasp, or FF7's Magic Hammer). But if you used Control, such as with Relm, you could access the monsters ability menu and use their special ability, regardless of their MP status.
Once the Blue Mage (or Strago, whoever held the Enemy Skill materia w/e) got the ability, it cost MP of their own to use it.

So I still don't see what the huge fixation about Blue mages needing TP to use abilities is. Perhaps the higher the TP, the more successful/damaging the abilities are, but it'll still use MP to use monster abilities.

Having MP use would save the class from certain getting screwage, but what kind of abilites are they going to limit the BEM to?

Good:
1k Needles- Since most parties never fight more than one mob at a time, having a blue mage spamming this would be quite helpful. Have to watch out that there is no other mob in the vicinity though.

Bad:
Bomb Toss- Since bomb toss has a random chance of backfiring against the gobs, I would assume it could also backfire against the blue mage.

Also, learning the abilites comes into play. Does the Blue Mage just simply have to survive the move? Do they have to Drain the move from the mob? Do they have to survive the move and have a certain level restriction?

The game also describes them as fierce melee mages. They say the exact same about Red Mages, and we know how "fierce" red mages are in meleeing meritt mobs.

I'll be rather interested to see how SE pulls off this job. As most of you know, the Blue Mages were often times a very good job to have. I just hope SE does them justice in this update.

If the Blue mage is a new nuker/support job, like it usually has been in previous FF's, then it wouldn't be to obscure to have a blu/whm or blu/rdm. Simply cast Stoneskin before Bomb Toss. There's also no reason why Bomb Toss would even hurt members of your own party, since linking goblins don't get hurt if one goblin has a backfiring Bomb Toss.

I'm certain there would be a level restriction, or else you could get a blue mage to blast monsters away with 1,000 needles at the drop of a hat (assuming they have enough MP).

As for learning, perhaps a bit of both really. Maybe getting hit is a sure-fire way of getting the ability, but you can play a safer and more tedious route and have some kind of "Scan" ability.

i think blue mage is going to be a solo job. everyone keeps saying things about it in a party situation but the simple fact is that all the jobs we have already in this game fill all the slots perfectly in a party. whats a blue mage gonna do? enfeeb? we have rdms or blms for that. is it gonna be a magic DD? we have blms and smns for that. will it melee + magic? we have a rdm for that. not to mention drgs, mnks, rngs, etc for flat out DD. my point is, there is no way i would pick a blue mage to join my party when a conventional setup has a much better chance of working out. (plus bst being the only solo job sorta sucks and it would be nice to have a bst + bem duo XD )

I don't think we know enough about the Blue Mage job to know if it's a solo job or not. I mean, it's attacks will have to be VERY powerful for it to solo. BST can solo cuz it's pet is fighting. Blue Mage will have to be able to survive getting its *** kicked alone.

I agree with god (Pokiehl), that it will use MP. And each move will cost its own certain amount. Also, to acquire a move, I think it will have a JA that lets it be able to learn a mob's learnable move within a certain time frame. Kinda like /ja "Learn" <me>, hoping the mob has TP to do it's move.

But we will see. Did you see the thread about the new Light based summon?

That is what I was thinking. Either a "Lancet" type ability or its 2hr will drain the move is what I think.

Lancet has usually been a DRG ability, if the Aoi Taoist(avoiding the abbv. battle) gets that, I'd expect a revolt....anyway good idea would probally be "Draw" at say lv5 or lv10 that would allow it to get the ability. That is, if it isn't "take it up the *** and enjoy it" isn't how they have to learn the ability
