WHOLLY SHIZ! Im from Hades but that looks damn cool!

What will happen to the PS2 users? Will their game transfer to

that "style" of game or will everyone need to buy a XBOX360 or

PS3 to have that "exact" version?

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's just a tech demo, not real-game graphics. The X360 graphics will be the same as the ones we see now. Sorry to burst your little bubble of joy. >.<;

Would be nice... but it'd be hard for those guys at SE everytime they made a new model for an NPC or ITEM... just imagine having to make one seperate XBOX360 every time, just not gonna happen, like was stated, it's probably just a tech demo.
#5REDACTED, Posted: May 21 2005 at 2:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually, sorry to burst YOUR bubble, but the graphics WILL be better. Why the hell put it on an advanced system with out of date graphics? That's why they said it will have "ADVANCED" graphics. They are working on making the PC version look a bit better. So the next time you bring your "ego" needle to burst someone's bubble, try sticking it in yer *** first to see if it works, LOL. But seriously, XBox 360's FF XI WILL look better than the current versions. Because if not, they'd just put it on the regular Xbox.

No offense metroid, but it bothers me when people post info that's just WAY off track.

"Final Fantasy XI was the first game in the popular role-playing series to go online, and the Xbox version will sport new high-definition graphics and make use of all of Xbox Live's features."

That's a quote from the statement they gave when announcing the games new platform.

That could mean they upped the framerate to make it high-def and you can use xbl chat, headset and friendslist.

I don't see how that quote proves what metroid said is wrong.

They've also announced that all three systems will be able to play on the same servers.

I think they will make new models for the 360 though, I dont think a game with PS2 quality graphics would sell well on a next-gen system.

Im just wondering if those of us who have PCs capable of handling the 360 graphics will be able to "upgrade". Not that I intend to play that long, but if Im still playing when the 360 version is released and I have to stick with the current version graphics I wont be too happy.

#9REDACTED, Posted: May 21 2005 at 11:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I heard that they are working on making the PC version "more pretty" also. But guys, can you imagine LIVE chat and VIDEO...if they do it? OMG, lol.

Actually metroid is completely correct that is infact a tech demo not how teh actualy gfame will look.. the game on xbox360 will look much better than the ps2 version but not THAT much better.. itll just look like playin ffxi on a high priced PC compared to a ps2... if you go to ign and look at the xbox 360 page youll see that same demo and a second video with ACTUAL ingame footage and gameplay that dont even come CLOSE to that tech demo so maybe it is you xJackelx who should get your facts straight... after all in the quote you provided it said it will have new HIGH DEFINITION graphics.. not ALL knew grapchis.. high definition doesnt make a non HD game look 30x bettr like teh cutscene does... have you watch a movie w/o an HDtv then the same movie again in high defintion it looks slighly better (and youd REALLY have to be paying attention to notice it) it doesnt look 30x times better like that tech demo showed
#11REDACTED, Posted: May 22 2005 at 4:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Calm down Duo, its a game, not a political race. What we are saying is that it WILL look better. Do you think it's gonna look like a PS2's graphics on XBox 360? Noperz. It will look better than that. That's what we are saying. Don't come here to flame ya flamer, lol. I'll put yer flame out with my tongue, cuz I'm da Ice Man (/em clinches teeth.)

I'd spit off the techical side of this, but you'd probably not understand it. "upping the framrate" isn't even an option. HD has nothing to do with framerate, it's about resolution, 480i/p 1080i/p and so on. True, it will look like a higher end PC would, but the statement that was made, was that it wouldn't look that good. That statement was incorrect, it will look that good, if it was a tech demo, maybe only certain portions of the game will look that good, but it WILL look like that. Despite the main gameplay being lower quality then the CG, it will still look and feel more like a PC version when compared to the Ps2. I do know what the ps2 looks like setup in 16:9 on an HDTV, it looks like a stripped down PC Version. Here is what it looks like on my TV.

Funny, it said FFXI at the start of it for me :)
Although the article does state it may not be actuall excerpts from the game, it says it's rendered, not prerendered. :) Meaning gfx could possibly look that way.

interlaced is played at around 30fps, when a game, movie, or tv show is played in xxxp that means that they show each frame un-interlaced, boosting the framerate to 60 fps.

But I probably wouldn't understand =).

and for the record I do think the 360 is capable of the graphics shown in the footage, and wouldnt be suprised if the game looked that good on the 360.

I haven't watched the direct-feed stuff yet, but are you people sure you aren't watching the FFVII PS3 tech demo?

#18REDACTED, Posted: May 22 2005 at 9:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Nah, that video isn't gameplay, but I'm sure that XBox360 is capable of graphics either like or near that. It IS a next gen system. But we will have to wait and see.

Ok look people..... it is clearly labeled on there "SQUARE ENIX TECH DEMO." It's not actual gameplay footage of FFXI. Any moderately intelligent person can see that none of those areas can be found in the ffxi we know today. Also, when you speak of "high definition" graphics, it just means that the Xbox360 version of ffxi will support Hdtv.... if you have one. Like some of the others said, it will merely look like FFXI being played on a high end pc. Nothing more. It's common sense guys =/

Select Gameplay 2, this was posted a few replies ago.

On a side note, interlaced does not mean 30 fps.
The odd scans lines are drawn, then the even scan lines, then the odd scan lines again and so on and so forth, with Progressive scan which is where the p as opposed to the i comes from in things like 480i/p means both even and odd are drawn together at the same time.

"The first part of the term represents the number of vertical scan lines per frame: 480i has 480 scan lines in each frame, 540p has 540 scan lines per frame, and 1080i has 1080 scan lines in each frame. Implicit in the number of vertical scan lines is the number of horizontal pixels: 480 imply a resolution of 720x480, 720 imply a resolution of 1280x720 and 1080 implies a resolution of 1920x1080.

The second part indicates if the signal is interlaced (indicated by an "i") or progressive (indicated by a "p"). Thus, 480p is a signal which carries 480 vertical scan lines in a progressive format. 1080i is a signal which carries 1080 vertical lines in an interlaced format."

That quote taken from Pixel Magic.

On that note, please stop referring to the ps3 and the tech demo, as this thread wasn't directed at either of those.

It's pretty obvious to me your grasping at straws now because your quote had nothing to do with fps, and everything to do with resolution.

The fact of the matter is interlaced video is displayed at 30 fps, progressive is displayed at 60 fps. On a TV the screen refreshes 60 times a second, in interlaced form 30 frames are shown in the even/odd form. In progressive form instead of the even/odd form each refresh shows a complete new screen.

This is the first result when "Interlaced vs Progressive" is typed in to google. http://www.vxm.com/Progvsinter.html

"The argument that 1080x1920, 30 frames/sec interlaced (1080I) will give better picture quality than 720x1280, 60 frames/sec progressive (720P) because it has twice as many picture elements (pixels) per frame ...."

I'm bringing up the PS3 tech demo because I have yet to see a video for FFXI that says Tech Demo on it, and I've been to both IGN and Gamespot. I'm assuming that either they have seen some footage I haven't, or they are watching the wrong footage.

I've been to the link, I've watched the video, nowhere does it say tech demo, so either you didn't watch the clip or you didn't read my post.

I think you need to go BACK and re-read this thread then. Locate the reply a few posts down... it reads this

"Sorry to disappoint you, but that's just a tech demo, not real-game graphics. The X360 graphics will be the same as the ones we see now. Sorry to burst your little bubble of joy. >.<;"

Now, my reply to that, was it wasn't the tech demo those pictures were taken from, it was the 360's movie ( which was rendered, not pre-rendered. )

Then this came in

"Actually metroid is completely correct that is infact a tech demo not how teh actualy gfame will look.."

Again referring to the still shots taken from the NON tech demo'd, rendered version of the 360.

Then this followed..

"LOOK, IT SAYS TECH DEMO

THAT MEANS IT'S NOT THE GAME.
DOES IT SAY FINAL FANTASY XI ON IT?

NO!"

Which was way off the wall, because the link people had posted to the streaming free video, showed FFXI Xbox360 as the footer, nowhere is Tech Demo or Ps2/3 mentioned, and it says it's rendered, not pre-rendered.

The article this derived from, also stated it might not even be a FFXI product in the long run, it also stated this.

"Close collaboration between Microsoft and Square Enix is just beginning. As a company that is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of what is possible in the world of video games, SE looks forward to working with the Xbox team to create new worlds that the Xbox 360 will make possible. Tonight I'd like to share you with a sneak preview of what we believe the future of video games might look like. We created this real-time rendered image taking advantage of Xbox 360's superb graphics power."

Relax =)

First off, the gamespot vid is definitly FFXI.

Also, just because it is rendered in real-time, that does not mean it is gameplay footage. All tech demos are rendered in real time, it's not much of a tech demo if all it is doing is playing a pre-rendered video.

I still don't understand why people are claiming this is a tech demo, which is why I was asking if they had watched the video someplace besides gamespot, and if they had I wanted a link to the site that claimed this footage was a tech demo. You do realize that gamespot is not the only place on the web to offer E3 footage, right?

I think the biggest point you need to understand is that tech demos are not pre-rendered.

I'm still curious about this quote:

"LOOK, IT SAYS TECH DEMO

THAT MEANS IT'S NOT THE GAME.
DOES IT SAY FINAL FANTASY XI ON IT?

NO!"

This is why I asked if they perhaps had watched the wrong video, the tech-demo for the PS3 perhaps, which is why I brought it up.
