Earth Crystals @ 1300/12? WTFFollow

#1 Jan 20 2005 at 6:45 AM Rating: Default
Yes, last night, disaster struck and Earth Crystals broke 1k benchmark. Some sold as high as 1,300 for a stack. Now I just want to say something to the people of Shiva.

You complain when people are greedy and raise the price on things you want to buy, yet you get greedy and increase your sale price on things you want to sell. Dont be a Hypocrit. So whats if theres only 15 earth crystal stacks on the AH. Dont raise the price. And you all whine when the real prices that matter raise (Bast Parchment/Shihei comes to mind after Elm Logs skyrocketed to 8k the other month).

So please, from now on, dont raise the price, even if youre the only one selling the item, because in the end it does bite you in the *** no matter what. I never jack up the price, even if theres none on the AH of the item I'm selling.

Btw Elm Logs at 8k, whos the idiot who thought hey lets make Elm Logs over double what they were...loser!

I always put things up at the old prices I remeber when I joined. Like Earth Crystals for 500/stack. Single Silks @ 600 per. Guess what? I still get paid the overpriced rate becuase people are in a hurry and are willing to pay that much.

It's the most simple case of supply and demand.

I agree with Mizuno, I mine a lot and I have set prices for most ores, espically my most numerous ones:
300 = zinc
500 = iron
1400 = Mythril

I almost never get 300 for zinc on the AH its almost always 500 becouse people don't haggle with it.

I rarely Raise prices on items, especially Crystals, I usually sell those in my Bazaar.
Fires - 250
Dark - 250
Water - 50
Earth - 50
Wind - Dont sell those due to WoodWorking.

I did Jack up the price on 1 thing though because there were none in stock. I needed a Giant Shell Bug for my PLD AF boots. The going rate was 8-10k, I checked every AH and there were none in stock. I shouted a little in Jeuno for one, no response. I finally decided to go to the Crawlers Nest and kill the Dread Bug for 2 Giant Shell Bugs. I myself could not kill it, so I shouted for help with it. I had a 65 drk respond and we agreed on 12k for his help with killing it. I got the 2 bugs, paid him his 12k and got my AF boots. Now I had one left to sell. Yes I could have sold it for a loss at the 8-10k price, but why?. I spent a good 3 hours trying to get this, paid someone 12k to help me, now I should sell it for a loss so the next person can just walk up to the AH and buy it in 1 minutes time?. Well I put it up for 20k and it sold, reimbursing the 12k I spen for the help and the 8k for the 3 hours I spent trying to get this. Was I so wrong for this?

I could've sworn that when I first started (only 6 months ago), earth crystals went for 1500. Growing up in San d'Oria, this made me happy. It was at that price for a couple of days I think. Then I ended up having 2 or 3 stacks of earth crystals and went to sell them... they went down to 500.

I'm feeling the bite with water crystals. The price has been steadily increasing.

I guess it's time to start hunting elementals.

In imo, nope. You spent time and money and shouldn't incur further loss by selling that item for less than what you felt was its worth. You could have also just listed the item for the 12k you paid the person to help you, since you got your own reward. But that's not really a big deal. 12-20k isn't that large of a gap.

Personally I'm always trying to get things to sell ASAP... now that I do cooking and all of the synths from that take up all of my inventory space I put it up for less than it usually sells at so that it sells super fast... most people are stupid anyway and dont try bidding a lower price so -_- nothing I can do about that...

I have a small Rant myself to add to this price increase thread. I am pissed about these new taxes at the AH, they are not making prices go down and they are costing people that earned thier money to lose it. I did something im sure not many people have done, besides the crafters, miners etc... who have more than accumulated this time im sure. When I got to lvl 30rdm with Crystail a long time ago before any advanced jobs or surpassing 30, I got sick of having to stop lvling every few levels and go farm to buy my new gear. So I decided to farm and only farm until I made a set amount. I decided 1.5 million would be it. That took me right around a month of farming day in day out as a lvl 30rdm. Ever since then I have not farmed, I have just sold items I have received from lvling jobs and bought and resold my armor and weapons, and also money from quests and missions I have completed. Although ever since this tax has been issued I have seen my money start dwindling from buy and reselling all my armor and soon I am going to run out. Yes you may say, oh poor you, you might have to farm again. The whole rant is that im losing gil to this tax system imposed by SE to help the Economy in the game and I don't see how it has helped yet, all it has done is hurt myself and I still see prices rising at the AH's.
No im not saying im gonna quit the game, or that FFXI is falling apart, I am just wondering if anyone else has any insight on how these new taxes are helping?.

I think the taxes should be based on what you list the item for and not what the last sales price was. That would cause prices to fall on most items.

Prices are up for newer players, so I hope it was some of them that listed the Earth Crystals at 1300 a stack. Go farm clusters if you don't like the price, or grow some. I used to grow wind crystals to cut my Woodworking costs, but now I grow fire crystals with the seeds I get while logging and sell them for a nice profit.

If I could sell a stack of Earth Crystals for 1300, you better believe I'd do it. Stick it to the gilbuyers, because hopefully they are the only ones dumb enough to pay that price.

i never raise the price of crystals. if i did, then i would be the one having to pay the raised price for the crystal that i probably put on sale...or something like that

Its weird, its guess its just people that want to get their crystals outta the way so sell at the last sold price... n when bulk buyers come in, the prices get stuk that way....

Goes down if everyone keeps their prices at the usual rate, just like Iron Ore a little while bk.. prices DROPPED to 200g, but i kept mine at 500g, and eventually they were bk at 500 lol!

Guess its harder to get them to go down, but meh. They will be more in sandy, cos u need them for the woodwork. Just travel to windy or bastok n get them on the cheap lol!

Sounds like most of the people here are in agreement, and tend to price their items below the current going price.

Myself, I would never consider putting something up above the going price. Of late I've dealt mostly in small ticket items like crystals and low level mob drops, and I usually put things up for about 100 gil less than the current rate.

Just my 2 gil.

ok....people, stop. You have to realize the mechanics of the economy and how they work. Economics 101-Inflation. More gil is in the system, there are more people using items which increases the demand, which raises the prices. However, you get more income from selling stuff at the raised prices so you can afford the higher prices.

One other thing people are forgeting is time. Vandy is on an excellerated time. So in the 2-3 years the game has existed, the economy has existed for that many more in-game "years". Are the prices of today in RL the same as the 50's, 60's, 70's, etc.? Do people in RL make the same amount? It is the natural course of the economy. Just look at the US economy and you will see why prices are inflating in this game.

i prefer lower price, material cost less, so the product cost less. however, the profit margine for us, crafter, are the same :p

but if we fail or only make NQs, we lose less money, if we make HQs, ppl can enjoy lower price and we enjoy exactly the same profit margine.

so, i prefer lower price.

Ok, the very very basics of economy: When money is being constantly introduced in a system at a faster rate than it's being taken out, inflation occurs. The average amount of money per person increases, so the average price increases.

Well, guess what... A very large amount of money is created in FFXI every day, and the only place where it disappears is the AH taxes or buying from NPCs. Except for the tax, trading on the auction house only changes who owns the money, not the amount existing. Buying from NPCs or getting gil drops from mobs creates money.

Now, if there are 3 people in Giddeus training Yagudos at any one time and 10 people leveling in Ghelsba, how long will it take for earth crystals to be 2k a stack?

Even ignoring all this, the people raising the price hold only half the blame. The people buying at the raised price also share half. I've delayed buying stuff because the price someone wanted for it was too high. I come back the next day and chances are I can get it for the price I find acceptable.
