Good day all...
I've browsed these forums a lot for some really good information, but this is my first post.
I'm posting to advertise a new linkshell, that I think can be invaluable to the server and it's players.
The linkshell is called SocialServices
It's a linkshell designed to protect and promote proper gameplay and an outlet to both learn and teach aspects of the game that are important for acceptance and survival.
While my highest job level is only 37 (beastmaster), I have gained much experiance from the game and researched a whole heck of a lot.
The shell right now, consists of myself and the co-owner, Aryn. We have designed this linkshell to help brand new players, sub-job seeking players, and other players below level 35/rank 5.
The premise is that the higher level players in the shell assist and teach the lower level players. Helping with rank missions, quests, key hunts, etc. all the stuff that we ALL needed help with when we were in our late teens/early to mid 20's.
There are a couple guidelines that I've set....but only a few...
First off, to become a sackholder in the linkshell, you must show physical proof of mentor status. This will show me that you do want to help others in need of it.
(I know...there might be people out there not wanting to help, but have status...if this is you, don't bother joining)
the only rule we have so far is no powerlevels...
This doesn't mean that you can't PERFORM a powerlevel for someone...how you make gil is all up to you. But if you are in SocialServices, you can not SEEK a powerlevel. If you happen to be in a party in the dunes that's getting a powerlevel, you can stay there, as long as it's not inhibiting you doing your job.
The only real winner in a powerlevel is the person getting paid to do it. If you're learning to be a white mage, and getting a powerlevel to become higher level quicker, you're going to be costing future parties downtime, and possibly death because you didn't learn your job properly. If you are a white mage, you should bow out of parties that are receiving a powerlevel.
Even if it's "just your subjob, what does it matter?" There are reasons your taking on that subjob...Would a /war be gimped if he didn't understand "Provoke." You betcha, so LEARN your jobs the right way and you'll be more experienced when the time comes for you to have to use them. Likewise, people will respect you more.
SO...here's the open invitation to those new players...players struggling with quests/missions below rank 5 level 35...sent Kbaoth or Aryn a /t and let us know what you need. We both have lower level jobs that we can form parties with...I'm currently levelling nin (almost to 12...can't wait hehe) and will be in the dunes soon. So I will take all the subjobless players that need to learn party dynamics and teach them the best that I can.
Being a Beastmaster, I also know some of the less populated levelling spots, and can take parties there without fear of major competition or overcrowding. There are a lot of misconceptions about FFXI and somebody needs to start showing others the light. Quifim, Yuhtunga, and Garbage Citadel aren't the only options...ask any JP player and they'll give you some more insight.
My first lesson about this game is that there is no "solving" it. There is no end. And if there is no end, no finish, then why are so many people is such a hurry to "beat" everyone else? The faster you level, the more you miss, in my opinion. This isn't a race for the Scorpion Harness. It's not an "I'm level 75, I win."
This is a social game. Friendships will be made, nights will seem wasted...and go by VERY fast. Take time to enjoy those moments. If you ask me...the slower you take the game up to level 35 or so, the better the rest will seem...some people might not have gotten "burnt out" had they just taken their time and enjoyed what they were doing...There's a world to explore, not just the "experience places."
If you want to join SocialServices, send a /t to Kbaoth or Aryn ingame, or post here and we'll try to track you down. Like I said, I'll be in the dunes soon...once I can use Utsusemi: Ichi (really wishes he could use <tab> to autocomplete...)
Thanks
Kbaoth...
