Alright, here's my story:

Yesterday, I was online and bored as usual so I decided to make yet another trip to Zitah to do a little farming. So I go to the usual areas and see that there are a lot of people there, so I decide to camp Keeper of Halidom. I notice a couple farming in that general area as well, so I just stayed specifically in the area where Keeper spawns so that the couple can go about their farming.

After about an hour of killing Goobbues, the couple stop by me and one (It's almost pointless to say who it was, as I'm sure it will start another mess I'd rather not deal with) says "Get the f*** out of here you f***ing gil seller". So I sent him a tell saying "Camping an NM does not make me a gil seller". That kind of exploded in to a silly arguement that I was surprised to be having with a lv75 player in a somewhat established linkshell. At any rate, after that mess died down I waited for Keeper, got him, he didn't drop, and I took off.

So fast-forward to today. Today I'm back in Zitah, minding my own business, farming away... and someone else comes along and begins slapping me continuously in-game. So I ask him in tell, "why are you doing that?" and he responded "Wow, I didn't know gil sellers speak english". So I went on to ask why he thought I was a gil-seller and he told me that someone in his party said I was always farming here...which apparently makes me a gil-seller.

Now, I realize I don't get around a lot in-game. I usually keep to myself or my linkshell. Most of you probrably don't even know who I am. Maybe these 2 guys were just random fools, who knows. The point is (for the tiny few of you without this particular slice of common sense, of which this post is intended for) is don't assume "random farmer guy" is a gil-seller just because... and then start with the gil-seller hazing ritual everyone seems to have. By the way, no... I am not a gil-seller.

I woulda said something along the lines of

"Okay, mister genius, how do you suppose normal people make their gil too?"

Wow its turning into a real ******* witch hunt out there with all this gil seller ****. Next thing ya know youll be victim to this bull **** anti-gil seller vigilante justice thats going around... even though youre just a normal guy farming to make a few gil. Its funny how people (gil sellers or gil seller hunters) can ruin something thats supposed to be totally fun. People holding mobs so gil sellers cant gettem, gil sellers training people who are just xping in the general area of an HNM or NM... when does the madness stop ?? I unfortunately see no light at the end of the tunnel for this crap. The gil sellers wont stop selling gil, the gil seller hunters think they are justified doing what they do even though I seriously doubt it hampers the gil sellers in any real way shape or form... but it does seem to hamper people that want to ACTUALLY farm an NM. Cut the **** people just play the game and quit trying to ruin other peoples fun.

I have to agree, we have the same problem SE does and that is we have few ways to know for sure that someone is a gil seller. Normally all we can say is someone is an *** who acts like a gil seller. I'm guilty of this myself there are several people I assume are gil sellers but do not know for sure, i.e always on and in one case one seems to have different personalities some of the time. When I am really mining I may be seen as a gil seller becouse I will spend a long time for many days in the same mine.

Norrain summed this up perfectly by calling it a witch-hunt. I was wondering when this was going to happen, after all the ridiculous posts I see on here for "Gil seller extermination squads" and things of that sort. This is exactly what happens when you get a group of people that all want to jump on a bandwagon that's being driven by a group of idiots. Personally I would love to meet these individuals ingame, because if your powers of perception are that good that you can tell so much about a person simply by seeing their character, then maybe you can give me the winning numbers for the next big lottery in my area or something else to that extent. All sarcasm aside... this kind of behavior has never lead to anything good being accomplished. But don't take my word for it, get a history book and look for yourself. To the original poster... I'm sorry that you had to deal w/ such stupid ppl. As for everyone else... you all have brains in your heads, try using them once in a while to think for yourselves.

People need to stop and think before they spoke, but if everyone did that, then the world (both XI and real life) would be perfect.

Also, idiots like what you deal with need to look for names that are very similar and occuring all at once.

Case in point...

I am lvling Drk outside of Bastok (Yay me) when i encounter 3 galka's all with the new character flag up and with the following names: Qqqs, Rrrs, Wwws. Now i'm willing to give benefit of a doubt regarding most things, but that is just too much coincidence for me.

Hope fully you aren't subject to any vigilante justice the next time you farm.

bump for fair play to you.

Actually a lot of the people that do that are not actually idiots at all... they are notable and respected players that are just fed up. I am not defending their actions but I understand the want to take action. I also understand that anything I could do to prevent these people could also hinder an honest player. I choose to do nothing. Hurting or in this case hamperin the game experience or farming of an innocent person to destroy a guilty person is never an answer EVER. It makes you just as bad as the person who is doing those acts to begin with.

yeah generally I don't assume gilseller unless they're visible by name, almost always in a party together outside of a town, or on follow with each other inside towns.

For example on Shiva:

Superstarren, Superstarone, Superstarfive, Superstar...
Aggs, Bggs, Cggs, Dggs, Eggs, Fggs...
Awangcai, Bwangcai, Cwangcai, Dwangcai...
Tanffxi_....
(i don't remember the names of the dragoon group)
