Depends on what job you want to play. As others have said; Galka whm's are extremely looked down upon but that is because they are weak. Elvaan whm's are even looked down upon some too but they are kewl in my book. They just don't have a lot of mp at the earlier lvls. At later lvls they still have a lower mp pool than say a mithra (no point in comparing to TaruTaru) but their higher MND comes into play more. or so I have been told.
To get back to the point. Galka's are good at Monks, Wars, Paladins, Ninjas (haven't seen many but as far as I know it should work), and Dragoons. If you go the Paladin route, understand that you will have seriously low mp and will need to know how to use provoke to its utemost. As I've played a whm with a Galka pld I never encountered him having a problem holding hate in the Crawler's Nest. In contrast a war/nin or war/mnk always has problem holding hate; to the point where you need a second tank to trade aggro back and forth. Otherwise your damage dealers and mages are getting hit too much, IMHO.
If you 'want' to explore all the other jobs that are more magically inclined then I would suggest Mithra or Hume. Mithra are second best in almost every job and they have the best dex (thereby they hit the most often). The only jobs that Mithra aren't good at are Bards and Beastmasters which require charisma. Which, ironically, Mithra have the lowest Charisma of the races. A Galka mage may look kewl but the lack of mp will get 'seriously' annoying. Even as a Hume, I hate running out of mp; a Galka would 'always' be out of mp and as a whm (Primary Healer)? that is a notsogood thing.
