After three outings in the dunes trying to level my warrior and losing more exp than gaining, I am getting quite disgusted. I am in serious need of leveling my warrior to around 30 as fast as possible.
I was wondering if anyone had any jobs around lvl 15 that they were looking to level, and level fast. I am available every saturday morning, thursday night and friday night. If anyone is interested please send me a /tell or respond to this post. I am very serious about this and would prefer you only respond if you are very serious also.
Jobs needed are: WHM, THF/RNG, PLD/WAR, BLM, BRD/RDM

My blm is lvl 10 currently but getting to lvl 15 takes no time at all if you want to party this weekend we can possibly work something out. I can get my blm to 14 to 16 easily by friday night. Send me a /tell in the game if you need my services.

Why all the hate on Valkurm? I loved Valkurm my first two times through (I levelled RDM to 18 here then BLM/RDM to 19 without going to other places like QUfim).

The dunes are fun! You get all the new people just learning how to play the game. They always have questions and I'm happy to answer them. It's fun to see people's reactions when you set up a skillchain and get a brand new black mage magic burst and go "Woah!". It's fun, it's great, I can't wait to go back!

I'm with Meara!
Last week, I lvled my thf out Valkurm and had fun partying with the newer players. And ,since I was the puller and party leader, the only thing we had to worry about were warriors not voking and mages chaining spelling. >.@ In one party someone said we were the "BEST" party he'd ever been in...!

Ok. ok , so that was his first time getting a chain over 200 exp. ^_^

I try not to hate anything about the game or the players whether they are new or experienced. Yet it can be irritating when new players don't listen. Like when you tell them that they need to use macros. The they ask what a macro is... Maybe I am just differnt but I read the manual and the FFXI Guide book before I started playing. I still had a lot to learn (though not to say I don't have more to learn) but I knew what a macro was and how to create it and use it. ^^ Learning how to play the game is what lvling 1-10+ solo is all about, imho.

Yet I do agree that steriotyping all people who are new the game is bad. Some players come from DAOC or EQ and are very knowledgable about how to play MMORGs. They may still be new to FFXI but they have a significant advantage over someone who is brand new to MMORGs. Also I believe that we were all new at some point and are always new to something. I, for instance, am a n00b to the Crawlers Nest, Garliage Citadel, Crawlers Nest, and a lot of other areas I have no fully explored. That is kind of why I always have Mentor on. I may not know anything about 40+ lvls but I do know how to help someone who is new to the game.

I think most people agree with this sentiment too. It is just all the beggers and scammers who pretend to be new beggers and scammers in general that create this sense of dread over having to lvl in valkrum. I personally don't have much of a problem with it. Sure some of the players are extremely new to the game but its not as bad as people complain about it. I do wish there was other areas to lvl 10-20 in though because Valkrum is getting to be very boring. I know what to fight, how to fight, where to fight... and I've done it all before. I am sure I am not the only one, by far, to feel that way though.

Not by any means did I mean to start a heated discussion by posting this thread. I was only frustrated from trying to level out in the dunes and losing more exp than gaining for the third time. I tried to help and give suggestions but not once was I listened to. I have had many good parties in the dunes among other places and actually like to level there but this time around has been extremely frustrating. That is all I am saying. Trust me I am not saying I am the best player in the game, so dont think I am saying that.

I am mostly looking for people looking to make an honest effort to listen to suggestions and feel free to voice suggestions. This post was mostly put up so that I can find some people to help me get leveled as fast as possible.

I am sorry for the rambling but I am writing this at work and trying to get it done fast. lol

If you get really fed up with the general lack of skill in the dunes, grab a few people from your LS and head to Korroloka Tunnel for worms. A lvl 15 party should be able to take them.

I don't know what it is, everyone that I talk to seems to have problems like this, but I don't know. I have gone through Valkurm 4 times now, as a WAR, MNK, PLD, and THF. In that order, I have had 4 easy times through, I communicated with my pt, told the WHM where I had to be before using Cure II and such, and everything went fine. My first pt death as a WAR wasn't until lvl 19, as MNK I had none, as PLD I had 1 in Valkurm, WHM went afk without telling anyone, and as THF I had none (I only took it to lvl 15 though also), but my time there was quick, simple, and relatively easy. I don't know if it was my experience from DAoC, or just plain luck, but I never seemed to have those problems in Valkurm... now Kazham is another story... lol

I completeley agree. I HATE THE F'ING DUNES! Sorry, but I do. Of all my jobs Ive leveled no experience has been a pleasant one(56blm/29whm/30thf/18war/17nin/18rng).

I swear every single time I level there the parties look like this combo or an equally unbalenced one.

War War War Thf Rdm (insert misc job here)

The levels are never really close, they look like this...

13 15 13 14 16 15

It doesnt get much better til Crawler's Nest IMHO. In qufim and the jungles your pretty much guarenteed to have at least one or two rank 1 jobs with an underleveled sub and out of date armor.

It makes me sad... :(

Just a quick idea... if you really really hate the dunes... take your party board the ferry and head to Buburimu Peninsula. Its a very good place to lvl with the same lvl range as the dunes. Its hard to get a party there unfortunately though. So get one in Valkrum and head out there. You will enjoy it.

Sorry, slight threadjack...

I was in these two parties:

1. war war war mnk rdm whm
2. pld pld war war rdm(if memory serves) whm

The former was downtime city since no one wanted to pull (myself included so it was partly my fault). The latter went by pretty nice. No big exp, but chains were good (I was puller for this one, wheee) and very little downtime.

The Dunes isn't really all that unpleasant for me. I've had my share of bad parties, but none as bad as what you've gone through. I'm sorry that it sucks for you.

What I really hate about the Dunes are all those damned goblins.

I haven't done too bad and i try to start the pt if i can. First time I was war and always said i wanted to be puller so it went pretty well, then pld was ok but not too good since i was only the tank but it went well since im good at tanking, third i was rdm and did good at casting what would work best mostly paralyze lizzy then heal ppl. And recently ive been a whm and been healing good. So basically I try extremely hard for the lack of some others and it usually works out well but not always.

Klahan:

Let me know if and when you want to get a PT together for korroloka tunnel...I have a WAR15 and BLM16 I can use...i have leveled all but my first job there and Im very experianced how to maximize the XP and minimize the downtime...The only challenge of PT in this area is finding enough ppl in Asstok to go there, so if we can skip that by forming a PT here and meeting up at a scheduled time, we can all get to lvl 20 in a day or so, guaranteed ^^

I have been through the Dunes so many times, and I actually kind of like it.

So far?

Monk, Thief, Red Mage, Black Mage, Warrior, Ranger, Bard, Summoner - all taken through the Dunes. I'm getting ready to run through there as a Paladin, too.

If you have problems with parties in Valkurm, though, you're never going to be able to hack going through 25-33 in Kazham and Garlaige. The worst time I've ever had leveling anywhere ever was the last trip I took through Kazham as a Red Mage. It was terrible.

Really terrible.

Utterly terrible.

Jen, I have leveled through the dunes a number of times already. As I said before I was just getting frustrated with the way things were going.
I remember partying with you a couple of times when I was leveling my thief. I had no problems then but maybe its just me.
I honestly just wanna set up a group that I can party with so I can level my warrior fast and get back to leveling my main (monk).

I'm just saying...

It doesn't look like you've taken any other jobs beyond Qufim yet. Just - y'know - brace yourself. Yes, Valkurm can be frustrating, but Kazham is the single worst place on the game.

Over-camped? Check.

Rampant under-leveled sub-jobs? Check.

People who've reached 25-30 and now think they're no longer n00bs so won't take even well-intended advice? Check.

Training like crazy instead of calling for help? Check.

Sorry, this is relative to "the Dunes" but I guess it's a little off topic...

Anyway, partied in Dunes last night and switched to monk so I could party with a friend. I'm gearing up for DD since I want to save as much gil as possible for a Neckchopper just in case I can't find a party to fight Panzer Percival. My defense is slightly lacking (I know, this is wrong but I kept it within 2-3 levels). lol, I didn't even get Fish Mithkabobs.

Anyway, it seems my friend got into a group with some people he partied with the night before and I was invited. Party line up...

war/mnk (Taru, I must've missed you Klahan), ??? (guy was anon, but I'll assume he was war), mnk/war (me), rdm (my friend), rdm, whm.

Everyone that I could see had subs except for my friend. You'd think war/mnk would be main tank, non? Heheh... I was main tank. :P I should've asked what her (war/mnk) defense and vit was, but I just wanted to have fun. She went by hit points (warrior belt and a few armor items bumped up my health quite a bit. I even had MP XD), which I can sort of understand, but I'm sure at level 15~16, my defense was crap. With dodge, things were a little bareable. But I was struggling a bit without the fish (I had meat though... -_-;).

This is not a rant because I actually had fun. If I was constant with my boosts and vokes and had dodge up, no one was able to take hate away from me. It got hairy at times, but it felt good.

Died twice (not even 5 minutes apart) because someone got aggro from a Goblin Leecher. We were close to Selbina so when I died, I hp'd and ran back out... kept hate too well, died again. But the others stayed alive (except for the guy that got aggro'd), and of course myself, and managed to kill it.

What kept getting on my nerves though, was when the guy who was /anon would pull. He'd go for flies and he always seemed to get another fly linked. The war/mnk and I would tell the others to zone but they wouldn't, so I'd always /h and the good people around us helped out.

At least now I know, if needed, I can main tank as mnk/war. Do I want to do it again? No.

Sorry this is so long.

I just had some fun in the dunes tonight actually.

I'm bored. I need to level subs. Alright, what to do. Hm. Monk, okay, now what to sub. Hm. My main mains are all mages, that won't do... Let's compare Drk and War and see what stats we get, I don't feel like subbing my Thf... Woah! Drk is giving me more Str and everything else equal to War. I don't want to tank so, why the hell not, it'll be fun. (Saddly Mnk need to get up so I can sub it to war so I can get war [which I don't like] to 37 and finally sub THAT to Pal ^^;;; )

Get to Selbina, type up search comment as follows:
Experinaced player. <fun>
Food O I'm not a tank.
More Atk from Drk than War

And I wait. Not very long suprisingly. I get a tell, they need some DD, I say sure omw. Started rocky, I had to pull because I had Poison lol. When we lost our two Sam we go a War and Rng to fill the gap. Flaming Arror >> Combo on Gobs wish Bansih/Fire MB was bliss. Got two and a half levels and called it quits for the night.

Most fun I've had in the dunes in a long time. Esp the WTF when I blew Arcane circle when I met up with the group. But, in the end, I was well respected, even by the Jp Blm we had (and I wondered why they didn't say much ^^; )

But I think I insured my chances of getting a decient, smart, and orginised pt by doing something slightly unconventional.

Sorry, a bit long winded. ^^

I'm a mnk by nature, and chose to use thf as my sub primarily. But after arriving in Kazam, i realize i will need a fully leveled war sub to get pt's quickly.

So i'm lvling my war (lvl 10) and i get a pt invite.

We meet up, and there is a thf/rdm, pld/war, war/mnk (me), a smn, and two others i can't think about. So we start with an IT Tinkerer. First mistake. So the pally and i work on the hate control, but the pally dies. So i take over, and die. Someone else dies. The rest of the party zones. everyone gets raised, with both the pld and i delvling. I get a friend to bring me leather armor (since i only had scale with me). SO now i am the tank. I have the pld, the whm replacement for our smn, and the thf/rdm cure me since the whm couldn't quite handle it. so we're fighting, we're fighting, and i die, followed by the whm. i hp to selbina, feeling a little upset because my party wasn't helping much (the cures were barely over 20 from the whm), and i be a **** and disband. Well the thf/rdm asks me to join a new party, so i do. Sand bats aggro me, the party stops to help and I die for the third time. well as i lay there waiting for a raise, and the party disbands. while i'm lying there. dead.

so i get raised, and a friend helps power lvl me so i am lvl 10 again and can wear my scale armor. I get a some buffer xp, and i go back into the dunes. I get a new pt. and things seem to work well. Except we had a bad camp, and i died 3 more times with that party.

SIX TIMES in one night is annoying. I manage to get into a new party with a friend, get what most people would consider suck xp, but to me a steady stream of xp with no dying is nice.

all i can say is that i was truly "Valkrumed"!!!
