I have a high lvl alchemy mule that used to make decent money but compared to my other crafts its just not worth my time anymore. She mainly supports my other crafts and such now. If you are taking fishing seriously, then cooking is a good craft to go into. I also have a cooking mule and she's actually making decent money atm. I've noticed some of the cooking GS have disappeared, so that's helped legitimate cooks significantly. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Alchemy is worth it ... but not at the same time. lol. it's worth getting to 60, and then keep an eye on silents and holy waters ... but the main problem is that when some thing finally gets to a good price, people undercut the price greatly. like on sunday around 10-11pm(est) Silent oils were up to 24k, (granted most people don't like it that high) but then when i checked the prices again on monday they were back down to 13k a stack. THIS is what is killing alchemy. The fact that people are drastically undercutting the prices of things. sooner or later alchemy is going to be a no mans craft ( in the ah that is )

Granted that is a huge decrease in price, it's happening with all the synths and all crafts. Bast parchment drops, multiple people craft it out and undercut each other more and more until its back to normal. Overall Alchemy will not be a good craft if you're looking for money just FYI and going from 20-30 is very rough, i will suggest synthing Saiuri-ran. Get advanced synth support and go at it, buy the mats from NPCs and you shouldn't lose alot of $$ if not come out on top. Alchemy has subcrafts that can make you alot of money tho :)

*shrug* see what I did was farm all my stuff ... up to 62.0 I have only spent about 50-60k on alchemy (imagery included) to lvl it that is, lol when i am lazy and need to craft something for myself on the other hand i tend to buy some stuff -.-going to 40 took me about 4 days maybe 5, going from 40-60 took me 3 months, lack of supplies and lack of good synths.

and the difference between alchemy and other crafts is, alchemy relies on only a few items to sell, because god knows the others don't nor won't, more so at low levels. but then again, you should choose a craft that if it's not going to make you money, that you can at least use, hence my choosing alchemy as my main and I am doing woodworking to 60, I can make most of my tools for nin( the important ones =p), make arrows and bolts for rng, can make arrow heads and bolt heads for rng and thf, and can make silents for what ever job I need em for ^^

but if you are really looking for money ... cooking seems to be the only craft that isn't suffering greatly ( more so on the fish area =p )

When I started playing this game, I used fishing as the activty to generate gil for me to craft or skillup crafting.

I didn't really enjoy the xp aspect of the game, so I spent alot of time crafting.

During the inflation period of last christmas, I was able to accumulate about 11 million gil from crafting and selling ice ore for 1 million apiece.

These days, I still fish to generate income, but I have cut back on my crafting with the high price depreciation on most items.

I agree with many of the other posters, cooking can generate decent returns on my server atm.

Heh as far as money goes, venom pots, poison pots, and holy water ... those are what craft now for $$$ and they aren't even big gil, it's just that I can HQ poison pots and randomly get a Holy water HQ, venom I am skilling up on, but thinking of it, for venom pots ... i spent like 4k in total and made enough stuff for 4 stacks ( only ended up with 3 full stacks and a 4th of 3 ) getting me 30k :) so yeah you just gotta see what's out there for ya to skill up on and work with what you can farm/fish to get and make a profit :).
