Has anyone else tried to level any characters from 10-12? I have a Taru BLM that I've been trying to level for about a week and all I've accomplished was deleveling in a horrible makeshift party...
It also seems there is a lack of Tanks/Melee searching these days...anyone else having this problem?

not really, everyone I know always has something at a close level so we either party or take turns power leveling. I have a Pld, Sam, MNK & RDM at those levels.
Have you tried timing your nukes, slowing them down a little so the tank can hold aggro. Give the tank a chance to they may have been a former mage just getting the hang of tanking just as you may be a tank just getting the hang of being a mage.
Give it a chance, worst case scenario you can go solo in Palborough Mines, Dangruff Wadi, Konoschat Highlands or La Thiene Plains. Or grab a few good friends and head to the Maze of Shakrami (I can't be the only old timer that remembers early leveling in there off the worms)

Dunes is horrible. I solo all my jobs to 20.

Leveling BLM and WHM can be tricky at times. And being a low lvl Taru has it's draw backs when it comes to HP. Best advice I have is don't worry about a party, take the time to make sure all your skill lvls are capped. You can do this soloing in the Highlands. There are a few areas that work well. Also finding a Melee that is also looking for a party and going duo on EM and Tough can work well. Sometimes the best thing to do is take it slow. Parties can lvl really fast at that level but it's also risky with the lack of skills and spells.
As for a lack of Jobs. Doesn't matter what lvl you are or what job you want. If you need it, it's going to be tough to find.

I soloed my mule to blm21/rdm21/whm15.
It took a bit of time since I would only xp my mule with the dedication effect on. But on the positive side, I picked up alot of crystals, some nice drops and a few beast seals.
I find going to valkurm dunes at level 10 is, more often than not, an exercise in frustration. If I do venture out to the dunes, it is usually around level 15.
I'm just wondering, what happened to xping in the Maze of shakrami from 10->15 and then Korrolloka tunnels from 15->20?

Notice the word "makeshift"
We didn't even have a tank
Anyways, I decided to just solo until about 15 or so......just keep my pt flag up so just in case.....

You could even do those in smaller groups. I think alot of the newer players are unwilling to try old places. I remember when the Maze was jam packed full of people. Did you ever level in Battalia instead of the Jungles? Ron P's tomb instead of the tunnel? There are a ton of options. I think maybe this was when we had more JP on our server?
