Teleporting question here...Follow

#1 Jan 16 2006 at 7:06 PM Rating: Decent
I've just recently advanced my WHM past 42. Now...when I'm LFP...I get numerous /tells in the game asking me to Teleport people places. I didn't mind doing it at first, but the other night I was teleporting so much that I wasn't getting any invites. My flag isn't up when I'm in the process of teleporting someone...

So what is the protocol on this? I mean, if I want to get an invite to a party I can't be teleporting everyone around.

it's your call to tele them (for a fee or not). you are not obligated to in the first place, it's your choice.

Well.....there is a perfect autotranslated phrase for these kinds of requests: {I'm sorry, i'm busy now.}

The other way to look at things like this....is that there are people out there that DO still run teleport services. This is an important way that people who run tele's make gil. The way i figure it, if i teleport someone when i'm not running teleport services....then i'm taking away from some gil that the guy who IS running teleport services at the time.

YES, it's true that not as many people run tele's anymore, but they ARE still out there. It's just that sometimes they aren't around when people first start looking for a tele.

So, don't feel bad if you turn some people down when asked. You ARE busy and your reasons for being 'busy' are perfectly relevant and justified. Don't let the odd person who gives you grief for not tele'ing them get you down....chances are they'll find someone else to port them within 2 minutes of asking you, anyhow.

It's entirely natural, upon first getting Raise and, thereafter, your teles, to want to help anyone and everyone you can. After a week or three, the novelty wears off some, and you focus more on, "I'd like to help you, but I really have --

- to keep my flag up, as I want to get some leveling done
- to craft today, as it's the last good synthing day for me for awhile; or
- etc."

I was the same way. I still tele, Raise, and otherwise help people, but I learned that what *I* am doing also carries some weight. I can't always drop whatever I'm doing to help. ^^

Also learn to not take it too personally if people get pissed off, there are a few folks convinced that WHMs only duty is to drop everything and serve them.

"Power Level NOW!" requests are always a blast.

I think it's an honorable job and the more you play it the more you will find the path that works for you.
