Hey Allakhazam - I'd like to take a minute to ask every one of you to help me out for an awesome cause.

On October 8-9, my fraternity, Phi Kappa Theta @ Georgia Tech, is holding our 3rd Annual Extra Life For Kids Gaming Marathon, in benefit of Children's Miracle Network and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This 36-hour marathon is intended to raise money to save children's lives. Check out the website at www.extralifeforkids.com. The marathon works simliarly to dance marathons, where "gamers" collect sponsorships per hour or pledges of donations from various people, and get the money afterwards based on how long they participated. (For example, $1.50/hr., play for 30 hours, earn $45 for the cause.) Over the past two years, ELFK has raised nearly $8000 for children in need.

Also very important to note is that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is a hospital which is housing many young children who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina, so the proceeds will also be helping the victims from New Orleans and Mississippi as well.

There are also two other ELFK's going on, one at New Mexico State University, and another which another FFXI player is leading up at University of Missouri - St. Louis.

As a gamer in the marathon, I'll be playing FFXI for 36 hours straight, with 5 other people starting as a level 10 PT in Valkurm Dunes. We will go as far as we can, and my high-end goal is level 45 (which I think is possible).

How you can help!

Donations!

If you agree that this is a good cause and a great way to make a difference, please let me know if you are willing to sponsor me. You can make a flat donation of a set amount, or choose to pledge based on how many hours I play (I've gone the whole marathon twice now) or even per level we attain in FFXI (my high end goal is level 45, and we're starting as level 10). This is by far the most desirable way for you to help out.

The best part about donating money is that if you make a $20 donation or more, you will get a FREE T-SHIRT from us as a thanks for your generosity. These T-shirts are going to be awesome. Last year's T-shirt had a ? block from Super Mario World and said "What Would Mario Do?" on the front, and on the back it says "Play Games!" (Fire ball motion) "Save Lives" (Konami Code). I'll try and post a pic if I can - but if you donate money then you help the children and get a cool T-shirt!

This would be a marvelous way for everyone to make a difference, while playing a game that we all love. Please, reply to this thread or e-mail me at gtg319h@mail.gatech.edu if you are interested in making a donation or helping out otherwise. Thanks for your time!
