Does SE hate my connection?Follow

Okay, I was wondering if anyone else may have had this problem, or perhaps a solution.

My POL seems to like disconnecting, for no apparent reason. My network is solid, a good 11 mb/s, and a strong signal. As far as my game files, they are all fresh, and up to date (re-installed 2 weeks ago). I have almost no lag (on occasion when there are 30+ people using a WS at the same time, it gets a bit choppy), and as far as I can tell... it can happen anywhere. Jeuno... or by myself in North Gustaburg. In a party, or not. It does, however, seem to d/c me in the middle of good parties (that’s why I say SE hates me >.< ).

I also add, I had no trouble like this until the most recent update. I do not use windower, either. Thank you for any help you may have. ^^

I'm guessing from this you are running on a PC connected to your network via WIFI.

I've never had a problem, but since you started seeing the issue since the last round of updates, it is at least possible that something SE put into the new DLLs is causing the game to have timing problems with the server when using WiFi (it has a much higher inherent latency than wired). Also, this may seem off the wall, but have you added any OTHER wireless devices recently? A new phone? Anything that uses the 2.4ghz spectrum can be the culprit.

Just some thoughts. Hope it helps.

im having the same problem, and im on wired network, i think there is a problem with either a router somewhere inbetween this end and FFXILand.... i have 2pcs and they both drop, but internet works fine...

so yeah, i think there might be an issue with a router somewhere down the line.

jus as a note... i have a shiney expensive router. i can monitor its status realtime and i've noticed that ffxi drops me when the router renews its ip. the connection is only down for about two and a half seconds, but that's long enough for ffxi to drop me. the connection is back and i still have to wait what seems like minutes for the traffic bar to get down to 0% ; ;

the way i understand it, routers (and computers for that matter) which are on a cable connections lease their ip for a certain time period. my router was set to 2hr when i first got it. i've set it up to be 3days instead and have noticed a significant drop in the number of times i get dropped (i think).

any compy engineers or techs able to clarify this? :3

methinks it's your router's fault, not SE's :(

Your concept about ip leasing makes sense to me, I wouldnt be surprised if that has been an issue before, but Im still a little skeptical about the pure connectivity of wifi. I still dont really own any wireless devices, for one thing due to expense, and im truthfully in the dark as far as the technology is concerned.

As far as i can tell, there is nothing wrong with my router... it's fairly new (2 months old), and runs like a dream on other internet involved activities. for example, i've never been d/ced from EQ...

EQ may be more lenient with its connection and unless he has a huge tube TV (or any large electronic device that's on intermitantly) between his compy and the router, the wifi shouldn't be a problem either.

And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your router. It's probably funtioning perfectly. Mine works great in applications which don't require a constant connection. For those which do require a constant connection, the connection is down for such a short period of time, the application doesn't care. At least with my router and set up, FFXI seems to care.

In the time I've been doing tech support I have found one simple truth as far as where to start looking for the problem.

Usually the report starts off with a story or tale that amounts to "Everything was fine UNTIL". Question is what is the "UNTIL" in this story? Find that and you'll most likely find the answer.

I play over cable with 2 PCs playing FFXI and one PS2 also playing FFXI, usually all at the same time. PCs are wired, and PS2 is wireless. I've never really had any problems with the WiFi outside of maybe getting a little more lag here and there due to natural latency of WiFi. Oddly this has actually STOPPED me from DCing a couple of times when the wired members of my house DID DC because the slight lag allowed the PS2 to recover before the drop.
