Something to say - cause bored at workFollow

For the last little while, i have been reading alot of forums and listening to conversations in this game.

Now first, i know someone will say, if you dont like it stop playing this game.

Anyways, it just amazes me the lengths people will go to get the best equipment in the game, and the most gil. And all the best equipment really does is allow you to sit and camp more gods to get better equipment.

Its seems to me the term "game" has been lost on this game. Recently there was a conversation in a hnmls that the ls is not for chatting, if you want to chat drop the pearl. But isnt this a game, I know hnmls are about getting gear but shouldnt you try and have some sort of fun doing this. More and more people seem to be willing to sell their mothers and sisters to get the best stuff in this game, just for bragging rights.

More and more people just camp triggers and do gods and hnms. Maybe this may not seem like a big deal, but go try and lvl another job and see how few people are lfp. Will this hurt the game, most likely.

I remember the best times i had with games are doing things like af, or getting my low lvl rse, simple things like that. Even missions are getting harder and harder to do cause all us high lvls are sitting somewhere for 3 hours camping something that will probably end up getting stolen from another greedy hnmls.

Having the best equipment is nice, but its not worth throwing your conscience out the window for it, or go against your basic ethical standings, Or quitting school, getting fired from work, letting your personal life suffer.

It would be nice to see people go back to their roots, the ideals when they first started playing this game. It seems when people get to about lvl 70+, their mindset seems to change.

Try working together for a change, how many of you have been lieing dead somewhere to see someone that can raise doign nothing, walk right by you, or you call for help and people stand there and watch you die.

Anyways as i said i was bored at work, and want to see the ethics back in this game, and the fun returned to vandiel.

I think SE should put in a circus, that would all cheer us up, nothing like riding a pony to make you smile.

OMG level another job, wth hell your nuts shuffles, having fun in FFXI again...wow your off your rocker....lol jking...

But yes, even the people in my LS once they got to 70+ and joined a HMN, they are completely changed for the worse....I have seen nothing but, camping this for this person, camping this for this person, got triggers tonight, oh this ******* LS stole "fizzy lifting drink" (WWCF) from us... Certain HMN LS's I don't think I honestly want the drama, the headaches etc....now some have a good rep...others I know just plain suck.

Heh, reminds me of old Diablo2 days...

Everyone who play it enjoy the game at first...and as they lvl up, it simply becomes a game of "become stronger" and "collect everything". People(include myself) could repeatly do boss battles over and over and over, just to get some unique equip which has 0.02% drop rate.

I personally started self-doubt after a horrible 71 hrs straight camp(nm) in Everquest(fyi, ano MMORPG). Got sick & tired, & finally started to ask myself the qustion: "Why am I doing this?" @.@a

Now, in FFxi, I try to enjoy the game as much as I can. I still farm, but only to the state of not gimp myself(plus, its actually fun to find out new gil-making methods in this game^^). Fact is, the world of ffxi is alot wider than just level up and get equipment. Why stick with those when you can do so much more?

We play games, not to be slaved by them...

What's there to brag about, when all you show is you starred at monitor, smash macro for 10 hrs?

Amen to that... the uproar in another thread on this forum amazed me. How can people cause so much drama over some digital item??
For that matter, why are people willing to spend so much effort for a few more defense or accuracy?

FFXI is a wonderful world, filled with legends and story, amazing sights, plenty of stuff to do and it's becoming dramatized by people who seem to want nothing but "more power" and "being uber".

I used to play Diablo 2 as well... and made a point of it to finish all quests for every one of my chars. But people weren't into quests ... "cow run" was the magic word, just like "meph run", "baal run -89" etc etc etc.

It's sad.

in my case...Ive been on this game since Jan/Feb 04. Ive seen both Klu and Ens since they started..I'm like a grandma when it comes to video games..I like to stop and smell the daisys. Ill spend days just farming, relaxing farming...or just wandering around exploring. When I see people I know surpass me...I feel like a proud parent watching their child grow. I'm in no rush for end game...I'll probably quit before I ever see it lol
One thing I do believe is we are all old enough to know right from wrong. Because there are LIVE people involved we need to remember that the rules of social conduct still apply. Like my monopoly example..we can't keep saying this is "Just a Game" because there are real people with real emotions behind those screens.
Think about it, I am pretty sure if the roles were reversed your reactions would be different. Stealing; This is innapropriate social behavior. People get mad...BECAUSE THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE. Why do people get upset over an "item"? because they spent hours/days/weeks/months working for it.
Don't be so shocked when REAL people playing an ONLINE MULTIPLAYER VIDEO GAME express emotions...it's what people do.
When you do something cruel, you will NOT be rewarded with a gold star. got it? ok :D

i agree some people take it too far, camping NM and such.. well im still a newb actually (my advanced main job is lvl32-_-;) but even I on my level sometimes wonder if its all worth it... when i hear ppl camp LL for weeks to get gil.. I always said by myself: Im an adventurer, I want to explore the world=D

but i can understand ppl turn like that... I take pride in my equipment too, I want to be as good as I can get.

Some players get more into the game than others and some dream more of the super uber armor and weapons than others. I gotta say I m pretty deep into this game, and I have those dreams too. Im not sure how far id ever go for cool equip but im pretty sure ull never catch me on a 50+hours camping marathon or anything like that;P I want cool equip but first of all keep my adventuring spirit and have fun^^

and for the "its a game not irl"-issue i totally agree with Niobia.. in any multiplayer game the rules of social conduct and decency apply just as much as irl.. not only for being rude and such but also harassing characters sexually for example, for which i often heard ppl reply "its just a game" thats total BS. Even if a char cant get really raped and the player isnt really harmed irl its still very offensive. For me there is no difference in how ppl should act irl and ingame.
