With the ever inflating economy, the prices of everything have gone up.. everything except teleport prices.. Now I'm not complaining per se, because I'm NOT a WHM, and I dont provide services.. But I have noticed a general decline in the availible teleport services on the server, and I know the unfair low prices they are forced to charge is to blame. As much as you'd hate to pay more, the price needs to be hiked up..

I'm not asking WHMs to charge more, I'm just here to say I am going to pay you guys more, whether you're charging the old cheap price or not..

So if you see me shouting in jeuno, this is what you should expect from me:

Mea dem holla: 1,000 gil
Yhoat, altep: 1,500 gil
Vahzl: 2,000 gil.

Mmkay? Hope it makes your money-making ways a little more profitable.

I decided to stay for reasons i dont want to expose until the emigration is over, for fear that said reason might not happen if it were known.

I think the current system is good enough. A base price of 400g//600g//1k is enough that anyone can afford. (Concider that chocobo can be as low as 150g pre-peak time.) From there though, it's the customer's responbility for tips.

The competition is basicly the chocobo stables. Why would someone pay +500g for a port, if they can save more money using a chocobo? Note that not everyone is flowing with gil, My Monk tends to have less then 7k on hand, The WHM though will have a bit more on hand, only to save up for the next spell needed. They both need every last gil possible for whatever the trip brings and whatever wares are required. With that said, a price of 400g I can spare, but 1k, that's 1/7th of what I have. No thanks. I would imagain others to have the same problem as myself in these situations.

I tip regardless unless the teleporter is known as slow. Free teleporters always get a handsome reward.

I will continue to port everyone I can, during the time I can't start something else. For free, its just MP I can get back in a seconde from MH.
When many players calling, I port first the lower levels, and I consider the destination, far before near.

I enforce my rules :

Friends -> anywhere : I run with them, but I don't port ;)
Bastok -> Dem or Altepa : never (too close !).
Sandoria -> Holla - Xarcabard : never (too close !).
Windurst -> Mea : never (too close !).
Player's Hometown -> anywhere : never (use outposts !).

Obviously, I will never bother /anon players with free teleport invites - I've learn to respect their need of peace. (I do also respect their /anon for raise, D2, poisona, door openings they /tell for : I don't interfer ^^)

hey, keep in mind that the outpost services, even if you are in your hometown aren't always available. Each area has a level cap on it that it will allow you to go to. I know you can't outpost warp to the dunes at level 12. Tried it on my brd, npc wouldn't do it because of the lvl. Also, not everyone knows about or has had the opportunity to do the outpost runs.

I normally just add someone and take what they give me. I don't shout the service either (just keep en eye open for someone in need). If I'm not porting peeps but see someone asking for some time - I'll just shoot them over cause I can. The 70+ crowd I try to port as soon as I add them (never know when they'll be in a position to give me instant-help later).

The only problem I've had is when people yell, yell, yell for a tele then decide to fool around. Here's an idea, ask for a tele when ur ready to go - not before you visit ur mog, buy some food, and try to find that elusive 6th party member.

Ask, invite, tele!!! Wam-Bam!

Before I was able to taxi people around I remember how irritating it was when the Mages back then would want a full 5 people before leaving. Grrr

I don't mind the occational Low-Gil/free (or sometimes barder) tele. I've been given a crystal, pie, juice, or random dime a dozen item. It gives me a good laugh. And just for giggles I'll buff up a low low lvl guy (pays to not have anon on all the time) if I think he'll have a lil trouble making it to town.

Tips are welcome but not expected ;)

I know several WHMs who stopped porting not becuase of prices but becuase they were accused of being gil sellers. These were WHMs who normally charged the standard rates, but sometimes spent entire afternoons teleporting as the most efficient way to farm. After a few days of being in the same place, offering the same services, the shouts of "don't use so and so, they are gil sellers" started. So they stopped and now only port people on their LS or if someone specifically asks for a port.

I'm willing to bet there are more than just these few who stopped for the same reasons.

But as to the OP, yes I agree WHMs should be free (and really they are)to charge anything they want without getting lip from people for the prices.

Getting a tele is a convience for you. No one says you have to take it. You can walk or choco. You pick. Last time I checked the city bus went places for about a buck while a cab was about $10 to get to the same place. I don't see people arguing with the cabby over the rates. You pay for the convience. A gallon of milk at my local super-uber-mega-foodcenter that's about 10 miles from my house is about $2.50. At the gas station at the corner, about 6 blocks from me, it's $3.85. Am I forced to pay the extra $1.35? Nope, but I do. becuase I don't feel like going ten miles. I pay more than 50% extra for the convience. A Tele is no different.

Like everything else in the game and in life it's a question of exchanging time for money and money for time. If you are in a hurry and you want to get there now, you pay, if you can take the time, you save. No one is forcing anything on you.

Give WHMs a break.

My crafting gives me a nice income, so I almost never teleport for money -- and, when I rarely do, it's an ad hoc thing (as opposed to "my activity for the entire afternoon/evening") when someone shouts a very lucrative offer.

I'm not saying " 'standard' tele prices should be higher." Prices are what the market will bear. But obviously if it became common knowledge that higher payments were being offered/made, that would prompt more suppliers of teles to get (back) into the market.

What bothers me is when someone offers a high amount and gets offended if you don't want to teleport. I'm not a whm. I'm a smn. I will gladly take people when I'm leaving town. But unless if I use my cudgel or a scroll, I have no way back if I don't want to change to whm/smn for warp. Not to mention, I usually get asked when I'm in Windy doing guild points or whatever. I don't set my homepoint there usually, so getting back can be a pain. Head to Jueno and airship in or rent a choco and pay for an outpost warp back to Windy. I've had people get downright nasty when I told them I'm sorry I can't do it right now. If when I'm done and I see someone who has been shouting is still shouting, I take them before I head to wherever I'm going next.

Same with Selbina. I like to ferry fish. Last time I was there fishing, someone else was waiting for the ferry and asked for a teleport mea. They offered like 1k and I still said no. At the time, chocobo prices were well above that 1k mark, not to mention I had already paid my ferry fare. Fortunately, that person seemed to understand that I would be losing gil had I accepted their offer.

Maybe this stuff will happen less if the tele taxis came back. But just because someone has the spell and you toss tons of gil at them, doesn't necessarily mean that they are willing or able to do it. I honestly think teleporting from one area to the next over and over is even more boring the powerleveling. And there are more fun ways to make gil. Maybe some of the people doing that service just found some of those more interesting ways to make money.

But I do agree, the people doing the services should receive more then what it use to be. We expect them to have certain spells and equipment when we party with them and we even make money off of those spells and equipment by selling them at the ah. If teleporting is going to be their main source of income, it should be made worth their time.

I saw someone advertising tele's for the following prices:

Dem, Mea, Holla 500 (ok, acceptable.)
Yhoat, Altep 1000 (ok wtf happened here. yes I realize 1K still isn't that much but come on.)

His name is Willywilly, for all who wanted to know.

Makes sense to me considering those can be a pain in the butt scroll to get or are highly expensive if you buy them at the ah. Not to mention, it's usually people in the mid levels that use those, and they should have the gil to cover it. They got to make their gil somehow. I've paid 2k for those before and up to 5k for a vahzl. If I need to get somewhere in a hurry, it's definately more convienant then airshipping it to a close town and traveling the rest of the way on foot or choco.

I mean think about it, chocobo prices go up as you get further in level. Why not teleports? This weekend I paid almost 3k for a bird a mea. 1k sounds like a deal to me.

When I first started playing Teles were 300/600 with the 600 being charged for Yhoat and Vaz. Then they climbed to 400/1000 roughly 7-8 months ago. So 500/1000 isn't that unreasonable. it's consistent with the first prices I saw when I started playing ( double cost for the two higher level teles) and it's still under the rate of inflation on this server which has seen nearly all other prices double in the same period.

If WHMs were keeping pace with inflation, teles should be 600/1200 at the very least.

yah i stopped porting cause i can farm in s.gusta for the same time and make more money lol XD

but yahs seriously, id port a lot more if the prices were higher, and I would pay 1 or 2 thousand gill to get a tele because those scrolls r spensive guys, realize that if you get a tele, sometimes we have to port a thousand people just to get the money back we spent on the scroll.. not worth it in my opinion, thats why my WHM is still 37 and not 38 with all scrolls. though i really should go and finish, since i can port my pt to altepa if i was a bit higher, and people like that lol XD

I bought 1 of the scrolls b4 I was able to quest them (and not get my head handed to me), needed a lil help from a friend but anything to 'save a couple hundred thousand gil' I always say :)

Thank you, Lenwei. In my opinion that kind of consideration is worth more than the gil. And, yes, I think more WHMs would be offering tele service if the standard price were a little higher.
