Who gives a sh*t what our grammer is its just a game all we want to do is play so get a life u stupid *** ****.

I have to say, this is also what I hate, the utter lack of manors and dignity online, the pure uncencored and unchecked ignorance of people with the illusion of ambiguity doesnt impress me, nor anyone else.

if you never posted again, it would be one post too late.

I'm willing to bet you are an English Lit major that prefers the use of British grammer because you prefer words to be aesthetically pleasing even if they do lack content.

Actually, I'm a Computer Science major, so a missing U from a word would cause a fatal error when I tried to compile my program. ^_^

I couldn't agree more with Eekiki...
I type in-game the same way I do here. No lol, wtf, lmao, etcetera. I type people's and monster's full names, use punctuation, grammar, spelling...the works. Even in party situations...it lets people know I'm not a 7-year-old leading them to a swift death. Of course, I typed this way even when I was very young, so I wouldn't be very surprised to see a teenager typing properly. No, I take that back; I'm surprised to see ANYONE type out a proper sentence, and anyone I witness doing so is added to my friends list with great ceremony. But their age would be a moot point.
In any case, I find that people (who actually matter) tend to have better responses to people who can speak English, not some form of net-ebonics. And if you won't help me because I can type better than you can, well...do I really want your help anyway?

Eekiki, thanks for ranting for me. All I have to do is agree, heh.

lol

Said without a smile, though, I do have a slight grimace at what I'm about to write. :3

Grammer is gonna change on the net, why? Because ppl are lazy.

One day there will be face to face cameras, so at least your LS can have fun conversations and you can really be Playing the game together having fun.. not just typing stuff like most of us do and then.... drawdling off. :/

"Lol.. thats great..... you got yer AF stuff.. nice."

I think that alot of the stupid writing is habitual and Very hard to get rid of. I would appreciate it if people would instead of trying to be perfect everywhere they go, at least Roleplay in general public chat, and in party mode :3

Until that day comes, I shall continue to speak however I choose to... and use emoticons. :P

^^*-lol t(>,<t)-Weren't you listening?!

Atomicbabe
Definition of ambiguity (noun forms plural: ambiguities)
vagueness; lack of clarity

Manor 1.
1. A landed estate.
2. The main house on an estate; a mansion.
2. A tract of land in certain North American colonies with hereditary rights granted to the proprietor by royal charter.
Dignity# The quality or state of being worthy of esteem or respect.# Inherent nobility and worth: the dignity of honest labor.
1. Poise and self-respect.
2. Stateliness and formality in manner and appearance.
Illusion
1. An erroneous perception of reality.
2. An erroneous concept or belief. The condition of being deceived by a false perception or belief.

So, what you're trying to tell us is that people who don't live in mansions on large estates, online have no self-respect?
Grammar is not just about being able to spell, using ":" properly but also the ability to understand the meaning of the words we are using. I'm sorry to single you out Atomicbabe; the use of the words illusion and abiguity in the same sentence was incorrect; English is a very difficult language. I always have a thesaurus handy to help me find similier words so I can understand how they may fit into a sentence, quite often these words are unnessesary except for a MLA standard paper.
I have come to the conclusion that you either find foul language offensive or that you are poking fun at the thread. =)

pwned! Joking. >.>

Also, saying they have the illusion of ambiguity is like saying they appear to be unclear, but are actually not.

Ok for the OP I will try and make this post as neat and presentable as possible, I'm from south london so my accent is probably harder to understand than my typing.

Ok before I even started playing FFXI I had no clue what words or rather comments like "rofl" and "lmao" meant. Even today I see new "lollapaloozas" that I need to decipher. After a couple of months of playing, these letter combos were my new online language and the only way I could communicate with foreign gil sellers. They dont know what "be quiet" means but they sure as hell no what "stfu" means.

Please dont get me wrong and think that I watch Richord Prior stand-ups and sit there saying "laugh out loud" instead of actually laughing... or that im pro-"under 13 only yahoo chat" speak because I'm not. At the same time I dont think people should be restricted to use proper grammar in an online game. I use proper grammar when it is important to use it otherwise I like to feel laid back and write however I want.

I'm sorry to say it but the posters who complain about other peoples grammar have to take a look at how sad their lives have become. I mean really do you want to look back at your life and say "I complained about grammar on an online gaming forum, damn that makes me proud". I'm sure your grandchildren will have a lot of respect for you.

A "plea to society" should not be about grammar it should be about the rise of gun crime or the amount of drugs being sold to children and if we're talking about FF it should be about the rise in gil selling and how our economy is screwed.

My quick plea to society is that someone should fraps all these gil sellers and post it on an SE forum then maybe just maybe something will be done about it.

Can the next thread please be a bit more selfless and discuss something that we will all benefit from an not just your corneas?

{Peace} Z

P.S. This is a funny post coming from a taru, isn't your grammar-wammar supposed to look like this?

There are already plenty of threads on these forums whining about gil-selling and the economy.

And poor grammar is the gateway to drugs and violence. :D

I almost never abbreviate when posting in forums, but do so quite often in game. The biggest reason for this is that although I play on the PC, I still use a Saitek gamepad and it is generally in my hand. I end up typing with 3 fingers in a rather dramatic reach from my semi-reclined office chair to the keyboard. I'm not really a lazy person, however when I'm not at work or physically training, I tend to want to relax. I don't generally use much "leet speak" but i do have horrible, to the point, grammar at times and almost never correct hurried spelling. Anyway, I do understand your issue with "cleaning up the environment" and I empathize, but I hate playing completely from the keyboard so I'll never be able to conform to such a standard. So, yes, I guess I'm lazy. <.<

Sorry but I have to say something negative... "net-speak," was created for speaking online, hense the name... genius... yes, you can complain about proper grammar but thats for writing papers, applying to jobs, etc. People online understand "ur" as "your" and "you're" and "lol" is like, "hey, thats kind of funny" they dont have to be laughing out loud or anything. Its the same principle as a cliche mr. english. Its overused and lost most of it meaning but people still understand what it means. Yes, everyone can speak properly, but, welcome to the internet(speak). We all understand it perfectly... please get used to it. Why should we change for you? you should change for us. You can expect people to speak perfectly... Yes even I, going against you have some pet peeves, like when people type "ye" isntead of "yeah" or "yes" that... I whole-heartedly have to say, if I was within arms reach of the person I would beat them to a pulp. And i make sure to smack my friend in the back of the head whenever i see him because he has a habbit of doing that. And like someone stated earlier, the "teh" has to go... leet speak or whatever you want to classify it as, has to be the gayest thing ever created... especially when you know people who actually say "teh" instead of just typing... my god...

Sorry to name names, but look on these forums for the postings of one Demonspawnmatt. His posts are what I'm talking about. They are nearly unreadable because he refuses to use any kind of capitalization, punctuation, or paragraphs.

Yes, I understand that u means you, and ur means your or you're. But a large chunk of the population has taken the use of net-speak to the point where what they type is not understandable. Use all the abbreviations, acronyms, and shortcuts you want, but realize that no one can read minds. Just because you know what you're trying to say doesn't mean anybody else can.
