Why is it that you people don't know how to spell "***"? It's not that hard...... a + s + s = ***. *** *** *** *** donkey.

ROFLM ***! O

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thinks the whole 'leet' crap is just silly.

Anyway, I'm still a bit perplexed. Let's take names out of this and cosider two core facts.

1 - the title of the thread is "Bringing Peace to our World". THis is because in the opinion of the OP, there is a tendancy towards angry outbursts, harsh words, finger pointing, etc, etc, and the OP was looking for ways to Show that it happens even under circumstances that do not warrant it. A simple 'Sorry I'm busy', would have sufficed. A totally valid point.

2 - at some point, a number of persons came into the thread with no other goal than to attack a specific person. Not one contributory thought was added. Not one "yeah we should work on this" was suggested by these people. It was almost (if one wants to play conspiracy and look at the sudden outburst of posts at that time) a co-ordinated attack on that person. All completely out of topic really.

The fact that #2 occured, only proves to illustrate the point that we do, in fact, need to bring peace to our world.

We have a problem, and instead of pointing fingers, bashing reps, and accusing people of things that can never be proven or (realisticly) disproven, we should seriously be thinking about addressing the point in the title of this thread. How do we bring more peace, and I'd venture understanding, to this server?

I would start by proposing the following:

If you have expensive gear, and a good amount of money. So what? It proves nothing other than you have expensive gear and a lot of money. NOTHING else can be proven by it. People need to stop the witch hunts. It didn't work out too well for the people of Salem, and it's not helping anything here. Remember, most historians agree that even the Salem witch trials were nothing more than a political/personal smear campaign. Accusing people of buying/selling gil is no better than that. If you don't have physical records of the transactions, you're talking out your *** (See I CAN SPELL IT!). And you know what? Even if you DO have them? Who the hell cares? Don't you have anything better to do than worry about how someone you don't even know chooses to spend their money? Is your life really that sad?

Suggesting that anyone who opposes your thoughts by making the statement that they are some kind of *** kisser or labeling them irrelevant because they disagree with you, or support a contrary position, is ridiculous and more than a bit childish. What's next? If I'm Tommy's friend I can't be your friend because you don't like Tommy because Bobby said Billy said that your brother told him that Tina liked Tommy better? So then none of your friends can be my friend? Next thing ya know I'm not gonna be allowed to play in your tree fort either.

Calling your own personal opinion a fact and saying it's blatantly obvious and promoting it as some kinda of universal axiom is also ridiculous. It's tantamount to "It is because I say it is!" Um, ok. Sure. There are plenty of people who will tell you that it is "blatanty obvious" that the moon landing was faked, the earth is flat, and their particular religion is the only 'true' religion. Guess we have to just accept all that too huh? After all, it's "blatantly obvious" and if we choose to dispute it, well then we must be some sort of idiots right?

We all live in glass houses. Thus, I can't really think of a single person who should be throwing stones. Not to bash Owen, but to just use an example. If you are calling yourself "OwenTheGreat", or hell, "BruceAlmighty", you get the point, then posting about how you hate self aggrandizing people, arrogance, or overly boastful people and attacking them is probably not a really good idea.

So rate me up, rate me down, attack me, whatever. Nothing here was said in malice, anger, or in an attempt to justify a position. They're just common sense observations to me.

BTW: Sifu and Mikie both had really good points.

Yeah, although I've never been accused of gil-buying, some of this "you have nice gear; you must buy gil" thinking is beginning to worry me. I would be furious if someone accused me of such, given all the sacrifices I made to get a nice income (or, capability for income) going.

See, FWIW, I was a crafter before I ever was much of a job-leveler. I had absolutely horrific experiences in my first job (WHM) around level 12-14 and just retreated, for 2-3 full months, into logging and WW skilling, and fishing, with some smithing thrown in. By November '04 I was still level 14-15 WHM, but my WW was in the 50s and I could make a nice income from bulk ammo sessions.

In contrast, most people who are 2-5 months into the game are leveling like crazy. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying, during the same phase of my gameplay, I was crafting instead.

Point is, now that I'm back to leveling jobs more, I am not rich but DO have an income, and "net worth," considerably higher than most people whose highest job is level 41. I should be proud of myself and the freedom I now have to buy some nicer things that I otherwise might have to wait longer to get ... but the aforementioned attitude sometimes makes me hesitate to buy them. "Maybe I should just plow the money into more WW skilling instead. Don't wanna be accused of buying gil." -_-
