has anyone done the event yet? tell me what do u get back after ur character is restored. anything that kinda sucks? do u get ur gil back? well tell me so i can figure out if i am gonna start all over or just use my old character

I believe your character is restored to when you last logged off. So if you were one of the ones who gave all of your stuff away, I don't think you'll get it back. If you are one of the ones who left everything on your character when you quit, I believe you do. I could be wrong, but that is how I understood it.
