This is a post explaining what happened just now in Beadeaux. It's pretty long so I suggest you only read it if you've heard what happened. OK, as you can see from my signature, I play Canorie, Elvaan PLD, blah blah blah.

Today, just a couple of minutes ago in fact, I might have done something incredibly wrong. But I'm going to post it here so everyone can get the facts straight and I don't get accused of things I didn't do.

I got into a pt that was going after Beadeaux coffer keys. We get there, camp in the 4-door room, and I pull the 2nd quadav key dropper. I was PLD59/SMN1, using carby to pull them since it's so easy to link them. I did not link any quadavs, none at all.

Right after I told Carbuncle to assault a Platinum quadav, someone in the pt said we will have to zone. ??? Apparently someone had zoned 2 quadavs out of another room.

Suddenly, those two quadavs come back and start attacking a PLD who had just arrived to join the PT. It was all really confused and everyone was saying that we needed to zone. I saw someone start to use a warp scroll.

We had no BLM, or at least the BLM wasn't here yet. What we had were PLD59/SMN1(me), 2 70+ WARs, PLD57/WHM25, THF66/WHM27?, and DRK57/?. There was just no way that we could have escaped as a pt. None at all.

I have a macro for Invincible and then logging out. I used it. The quadav I pulled turned around and started hacking at me. Out of nowhere two more quadavs came and attacked me. I don't know where they came from. Maybe they were part of the train that someone had zoned and attacked me because I was healing right in front of them.

The PLD that had been coming to join us died. I saw the text that said he died. So the situation is that we are fighting 1 quadav, 2 quadavs are on their way towards us, and somehow 2 quadavs appeared out of nowhere and started attacking me when I used my macro. There are 5 lvl 62-69 quadavs attacking us. We had mages. None at all.

That is the situation and how I logged out. OK, so that's what happened. I started logging out when people said to zone, and only after I saw someone else try to warp.

wow. Why would you log? Thats very cowardly, especially for a PLD. I dunno that exact situation, but if you used Ivincible the mages could have sneak/invised and ran to Qu Bia, instead of sacrificing everyone and not yourself, it would have been the other way around.

Just a thought.

I know it's cowardly. I feel really ashamed of myself. I just posted this so that there wouldn't be any rumors or anything about me having MPK'd a pt or something.

As for what I did... look, my reasoning was this. There are 5 lvl 62-69 quadavs attacking us. We have 6 people including me at the moment. For half of us, those quadavs were VT-IT. For the other half, it would have been EP-T. There was just no way we could have survived it.

As I've said, we had no mages. We all had aggro so even if we had been sneaked it would have worn off. As for Qu Bia, I'm sorry I don't know where that is. I'm not very familiar with Beadeaux and it isn't on the map.

I expected all of us to die. So I logged off (I didn't really expect to be successful, as it's very hard to log off when there are 3 mobs attacking you) and was going to log back on and raise everyone.

First of all, I wouldn't say that the OP's deeds were wrong. There is no right or wrong in this. Everyone has the rights to survive and yes by that I mean us Paladin as well. I laid face down on the ground many times for various reasons, some worthy and others not so worthy reasons. There were times when I was tempted to ja invincible and logout or pop a hermes quencher and flee to zone (but well I bite the bullet and die)

But enough said, personally I feel that a job by itself is no more than just a job. It's not that tough to get through the Paladin Quest to get the job. The key word here is, it's a job. For those of us that are working, a job can be just the means for us to earn the paycheck to survive. But it's just that, a job. We may or may not identify ourselves with it. For those of us that plays Paladin in FFXI, some are playing the Paladin Job while there are others who are Paladin doing their job. There is a marked difference between playing a Paladin Job and Paladin doing their job.

Personally, I will choose to be the first to die if it means that others can have a chance to escape. Even if it's a hopeless situation in which I can expect the pt to be wiped out but I do have a chance to escape, I won't do that. Why you may ask? Well for a simple reason. Trust. Trust is earned by what you do or do not do. As a Paladin, it's important for me to earn the trust of others. Trust doesn't come automatically with the Paladin Job, Trust is earned.

Well, just my personal opinion.

There are a few jobs that must always stick around til others make it to safty (in my opinion):

PLD, BRD, WHM

Live or die they should stay. Reasons are:

PLD: They are the tank that keeps all others safe. They should do so even if it kills them. Whether the people deserve it or not.

BRD: Your sleep cannot be interrupted. You sleep the mass links then cure/stoneskin yourself to sleep when they wake up.

WHM: They're there to keep everyone alive while you get the hell out.

After that. WHM leaves first. Then PLD. Then BRD.

At least this is my view on it.

Good thing you realized your mistake though. We have all made them and will again. ^^ We aren't robots. We just have to learn from our mistakes thats all.

Might want to add BST to that list since we can usually clean up any bad links and situations as described by the OP.

Pre reraise, I always tried to get my whm out first. At least then if it's hopeless and everyone else dies, they can come back and raise. I know I laid dead many a times in the jungle while the whm ran to safety. It was worth it because I knew they would be able to come back and get me.

I'm with Tif on this one. Pre-reraise WHM is first out for the simple reason they are the only ones that can bring the rest of us back if we are totaled.

Post Re-raise, I don't see a reason for anyone running if there is even a slight chance of winning ( 1% is good enough for me). Why? Because when you zone mobs, there is a VERY good chance you are going to run them past someone else, and maybe several someones. At that point you're a problem. Take the death, let the WHM re-raise, and get back to it.

Now as for what you did, hmmmm.. no mages, no chance, and you can bail out? Why not. There was less than no chance of winning, at least if you log and then come back you have RAISE I and can bring back the rest of your group instead of everyone having to HP and lose even more XP. True the zone is really close there, but it sounds like you were in a pretty bad state of confusion and usually there is a party or two between you and the zone there. So why cause they grief too?
