If you're up for a real challenge, I have a few for you.
First off, most of us are at least slightly familiar with
this guy. Many of us also know that he's totally not what he claims to be, and that Squeenix appearently doesn't know how a
kirin should look. (Hopefully all of the linkiness will work, each of the three words should have a different picture.) Make a good lookin Kirin. While all three of those are good pictures, I personally like the second one the best. The first one might be the easiest to use if you start with a Dhamel. I can't seem to find Kirin's model in my model viewier, but I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere.
Secondly, I'm interrested in a new chocobo. Over the past week, I've done some .dat swapping to see how other mobs would look as chocobos. On a technical level, only the real chocobo model (1-90-56) will work, because it's the only one with the dismount animation. So when I replaced mine with Byakko (1-5-4), I was unable move after I dismounted. It caused an interresting string of errors, but we'll not get into that right now ;P As I see it, there's four changes you'd have to make to Byakko to get a good mount out of him. He needs to be a little bit taller so the rider's not floating above him, he needs to post (bob up and down) more quickly so that the movement of his shoulders matches that of the rider, he needs a dismount animation, and he needs to be able to dig. A chocobo does this with his beak, but I see Byakko pawing at the ground when he digs.
If you come up with a kirin that you like, you might send some screen shots and a resume to squeenix. We'll hopefully end up with an accurate mob, and you might get paid for doing this stuff so well (cuz, you know, you do, infact, rock).
As an interresting side note, if you image google "Kirin," you get lots of pictures of girrafes. It seems that kirin is japanese for giraffe. . .
Edit: trying to get those links to work
