Hello there.

Edit: Artaea's back. I'm busy with things other than XI right now, so I won't be able to do as many edits and all of them will have a fee attatched. Send in your requests!
I'm most often logged onto the character Babelreas, if you'd care to catch me with a tell. But I'll see it if you post here.

Ever wanted to change the way something looked in FFXI? A different eye or hair color perhaps, maybe slightly tweaked armor? Does the way those scythes get wider in the middle bother you? (I know it always bugged me...)
I recently discovered .Dat file editing and am having a lot of fun with it. Essentially, all the information on model and skin are contained in the .dat files, which can be changed if using the proper software. I've done a lot of customization, but I've started to run out of ideas, and I'd like to make FFXI more interesting to look at.
If you want me to change the way something looks in your game, post your request here. If it's interesting, original or eye-catching, I'll do the edit for you and post the results on this thread for all to see, and use if they should care to.
Feel free to send me a message in-game if you'd like, but don't bother with a /tell....I rarely respond to those.
Also, I need to know your race and gender before I can make the edit. This is because the models for each race and gender are different.
The change will only appear on your computer, unless any other person in question also installs the edited .dat file. Moreover, anyone with your exact race-gender combo using equipment which has been edited will also be using the altered item. It's fun to see other people running around in the new stuff once in a while.
p.s...Donations are appreciated, but entirely voluntary. :-) ...naturally, you can only do so if you're on the Ragnarok server with me.

What cannot be done:
Asymmetrical models, for example a scar over just one eye. The scar will cover both eyes.
Entirely new complex items, for example a flag, cape, or set of curly horns.
Parts of zones and really big models, for example changing an airship into a chocobo or your moghouse into a mansion.

Donation note:
Artea, a completely different person from myself, tells me that he recieves many /tells meant for me, and gil as well. Just remember....Art-aea.

Some edit examples are....black chocobos, armor switches, changing one's features, unique marks such as scars or tattoos, and weapon reshaping.
Larger things are now accessible, but nearly impossible to find...for example, airships, the pavement in San d'Oria, etcetera. Still uneditable for practical purposes.

F.A.Q....Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: leik, i want edits plz0r!! waht d0 i d0?
A: You need to tell me exactly what you want edited and how you want it edited. I need to know your race and gender. Size is irrelevant.
If you want your face edited, I need to know everything about your face, from hair shape and color to eye color.
Description is key, because it's easy to edit the wrong item. A picture is better than description.

Q: i spent al my gil on firworks lol how much is it ne way?
A: Edit: 10k gil will cover most simple edits. Something like converting your entire character into an Ark Angel will run much more.

A: I can change facial models, weaponry, armor, clothing, chocobos, monsters, your moogle, and a very select few structures. I can make your Wyvern into something else, and I can change your jug pet. I can change these things colors and their shapes. Hopefully I will be able to edit furniture some time in the future.

A: First priority is given to people who display some intelligence in their posts. This includes, but is not limited to, proper English, accuracy of the request, comments on how awesome I am, and rateups on the first post.

A: This is the tricky bit. The directory you want, assuming you installed into the default directory, is C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM. There are a great deal of numbered folders. The first number of the file name of your edit is the number of the folder you want. The second number is the file you will br replacing. Move the new file into the directory and rename the old one, adding 'original' or some other reminder to yourself in case you want to change it back. Then change the new file into the name of the one you're replacing. If something goes wrong somehow, just put your original back in.

A: The pictures are low-quality in order to conserve space. Remember that the actual in-game edit will look approximately three times better. I'll get a better image hosting service....eventually. If I feel like it.

A: Okay, that't not actually a question, nor has it ever happened, but just in case, you can always tell PlayOnline Viewer to repair your files. That's pretty failsafe. First try the trick above, though.

Hello.... I am very interested in getting some editing done. I'm a taru male and i would like a grey tone to my skin and white hair. Also if you could make my eyes red that would be awesome. I have a nice donation for you in game if you can help me out. On a side note I'm willing to donate more if you think of something extra that would look cool with my request. Aha, you have taste Sirem. Yes, I can do all those things, but I need to know exactly which Taru face you use.
I've done something similar for my character - pale skin, purple eyes - and it looks very nice. However, it's best if you wear armor that doesn't show any skin on your body, because that is actually a part of the armor model and would not be pale unless specifically edited as well. I don't think Taru have much skin-showing armor, though.
If you have a favorite set of armor that you use a lot, fishing gear etc., I can edit that to match your new face. I personally created some 'fishing Relic armor' that looks very nice.

Funny thing was, I was gonna accuse Artae of thievery. Hmm...

Though I didn't take a screenshot of it, I also made the armor slightly more spiky...and I particularly like the red glow inside of the helm.
How to install it...The first number in the filename is the folder under ROM you'll be putting it into. For example, 46-105.dat would go into folder ROM\46 in your FFXI folder. The second number is the actual filename you'll use. Rename your original in case something goes wrong and just erase everything before the second number to install your new armor and face.

Sirem gave me a -very- hefty donation. He's an excellent edit subject, heh.
I already did some scale mail for a Mithran friend of mine, it came out quite nicely. Should be easier than your Iron Muketeer's Gear, which made itself difficult.
Flames don't come out too well on skins, but I can work on making your claymore more...flaming. Since you're apparently going for the evil look, I'll see if I can match up your spear as well.
Oh, and let's not forget your cloak.
