Can we please let this thread die out again?... this is childish... you have your own cultures/languages, and I have mine.

SE made this game so people from all over the world can play with one another. So different people of all different cultures can join as one for a certain goal. I'm sorry if a person ruined this experience for some people.

Please note that we were all new to this game when we started. You may of did a /random /shout for help when you were a low level. You may of asked someone to help you out with something you couldnt do yourself.

Remember that SE built this game so everyone works as one to achieve the fullest game enjoyment. You cant do everything "yourself" in the game. It takes a team or sometimes a few teams. And a team is something that everyone needs to work at in order for it to work out.

Now, lets just let this thread die out again...

I hope I made any sense?... My english is pretty bad too... \(^.^)/

Maybe because servers are in Japan and because JP ppl were the first ppl on servers ? =P Its normal they feels home on their server.

just my 2 gils : Yes a lot of spanish are noobs, yes a lot of spanish are gimped. But Im sure JP and NA ppl were both noobs and gimp when they started the game. Lets give them some time to see if they turn in good players. Thats what happened to JP and US so maybe it will be the same with spanish ppl in some months.

However, I have to say I cant deal with their "American ppl feel free to speak english, im spanish so i feel free to speak spanish." Like they ignore that english is the only legit international language. I'm not american, I'm not british, and as you can read, my english is far to be perfect. But I do speak english anyway because It would be some kind of disrespect to write this post in a language that 90% of ppl will not understand. I guess it should be the same for spanish ppl in FFXI.

I blame them to feel free to speak spanish on the server, like they sorta took over Ragnarok. But I dont blame them for being noob ( only a part of them ofc, some spanish are good old school players). If in 6 months there is still so many gimped and noob ppl in the spanish population I'll change my opinion about it, but i'm sure they'll do just fine.

Give them time.

I dont blame them to speak in spanish when its a /tell of course.
Im talking about /say /shout /p

About JP, its different, since those servers are hosted in Japan, since japanese were the first ppl on servers, its normal they use their own language.

I guess if FFXI was a spanish game, with spanish server and a 50% spanish population i would not blame them speaking spanish..

On a completely different note: it seems that my name literally means "crap" in one of the European languages. LOL. If I have to guess, I guess Spanish. (BTW, name is Kaga in-game)

On a super completely different note: if anyone here watches Iron Chef, the host dood is also named Kaga something. LOL. Talk about some major coincidences eh? :D

"I only wanna play and enjoy the game."

That is probably the best way it can be said.

Hmm. Kamissa u know me but i don't know if u know that i am spanish, hundreds and hundreds of people in Ragnarok are spanish but nobody know it, i think we are more than 1000 Spanish in Ragnarok server and is too easy that 3 or more meet in jeuno and start a conversation, i understand that is too annoying to read lots of lines in spanish if u cant understand it, but is a total stupid action to speak english with spanish people, first because our english is too bad ( Education system in Spain about english is realy poor.. only a few people can "try" to speak english decent. ) and second, because is our lenguage, u need to understand u have always in english, games, songs, webs, etc. but we only have our own things or translated. we want to use our lenguage, because is our lenguage when we can, i use english when someone in conversation cant understand spanish, but when all in conversation are spanish, why use english? is stupid.

About to speak in /say or /shout, i pay this game same as u and i have right to speak some lines in my lenguage same as u do it in your( i dont say to do a Meeting in spanish, only to speak some lines ;p ) i repeat we are hundreds and hundreds of spanish in Ragnarok ( a great system of WorldPass in European Launch, and a great community forum ) u cant judge all spanish community for a few childrens ( 12-15 years ) that cant speak english but love this game. We are lots, tons, millions, be carefull, we are watching u.. ;P!!

PD: <Please forgive me.> <English> <Too Weak>

im spanish 20 yo, i speak more and less english and french. im just lv 47 pld . try to understand we use " XD " or " jaja " like you use " lol " .. , its the same..
i have never speak spanish in party (well, when i have 4 spanish inside my party , maybe some " XD " ). I can keep hate better than a eng or *** pld of my lv, why? cause im tired of listening " spanish sux , spanish noobs" and i have done my best in being better to change this comments. just a question, we play since september 04, you play since 2002 or 2003.. in 2006 how many lv 75 spanish will be in ragnarok? i think more than 200, we will take the leadership, dont forget that.

Nice to meet u all loosers ;)

last thing, in lower jeuno there are a lot of stupid casinos on /shout , if i wanna salute a eng/***/spa/ger/ita friend i will use /say. its better "/say hello !" than "/shout CASINO´S XXXX 600+ 2X. 900 3X.. TRYY ITTTT, GOOD LUCKKKK"

In a JP party i used {Water} {problem} to express my need for the WC lol they understood and found my expression funny.
I love learning new languages and new cultures...thats one of the big benefits of this game.
Valk sucks regardless of race/sex/preference/language.

Not all spanish spam in say/shout/emote, and other languages are also used to spam say/emote/shout.

As for every behavior, there are places and times where it is ok, and there places or times where it is not.

We all have a voice, but IRL, shouting is accepted ONLY in stadium - or similar spectacles places. Nobody would ever shout in a town's street, a shop, a train, a classroom, an office (except may be to prevent an immediat accident).

It goes the same in game : we have the /say, /emote, /shout command available all the time ; that doesnt mean we can use them anywhere.

The server's players have built habits : on Ragnarok, Teleport are to be adv / quested only in say, and only close to Lower Jeuno Mog house. That is where WHM operate. Everybody knows that, so shouting in Port or upper is useless, and /say is just enough.

Another server habit is to be as quite as possible whenever a large number of players are in sight. That includes AHs, or popular XP zones, Telepoints.

In towns, shouts are used only to adv the events : coffer keys, prom, ZM or such mission.

Now, a large number of spanish do not follow these "rules". That is also true for other countries, althought easily noticable when language is spanish.

So please, all, spanish or not :
-Never shout, but for trains or events ;
-Never say/emote, when you can see you will spam someone you do not talk to ;
-Move apart in a less crowed place when your roleplay implies say/em ;
-Tell to your friends, that they get quickly bad rep for spaming others ;
-Tell your friends, that the bad rep will fall upon all their country if they use a specific language.

WELL YEE HAW and SIEG HIEL lets find justification for xenophobia...next comes Eugenics. Plenty of people talk in /say, we all have the option to turn on filters. Every race, gender, sexual preference and religion that plays FFXI has done it. Cut the crap kids. If you want to make kissy faces at someone in emote or use /say to communicate - go for it - we can easily goto CONFIG CHATFILTERS and ignore it - it is not and WILL NOT be a reasonable explanation or excuse for prejudice.
WHo the hell are we to assume to dictate what is proper game behavior when we don't have the slightest understanding of what is proper in other cultures?

Never. Never. Never. What I suggest (only suggest, not dictate) is that everybody (and not only a given gender/race/country/whatever) calms down with public spam when one can see it will bug 10 other players. That is common sense. Please. But if not, oh well, as you suggest, we have tools : legs to zone away, filter, blist.

Quote:
Plenty of people talk in /say,

Hopefully, this is false. Hopefully, only very few players dare to do that.

Quote:

This is true.
What I find amazing, is that you seems to suggest that majority should use filters to protect from minority, and you don't aggree that minority should consider making a small effort to stop annoying everyone ?

Other cultures are not involved.
What usually do civilized people when they come for the first time somewhere, is to observ others's behaviors, learn, and adjust their own to fit the majority.
What do rude or selfish people, is to impose their behavior without considering how other act.

And, although I did not go everywhere on Earth, I've been travelling in many countries. I can't remember any country where public louding is tolerated, (but in pubs, stadium ...). Usually, in any public situation (trains, restaurant, etc) group of people adapt their voice levels to not be heard from the vicinity. That is the equivalent of /tell or /pt. That seems to "be proper in <most of> other cultures".
