TV Shows I am finally getting caught up on.Follow

#1 Jun 10 2012 at 3:39 AM Rating: Good
So I finally watched "How I Met Your Mother." A good series. I enjoyed it.

More recently, I was asking my boss if she watched Mad Men and told her it was good, she should check it out. I offered to let her borrow the first season we have on blu-ray. She offered, in turn, to let me borrow the first season of House.

So now I'm hooked. I get why people enjoy this show. And, like How I Met Your Mother, I was interested to note that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) from Once Upon a Time was on House. I got seasons two and three from her today.

My husband and I are also getting caught up on the first season of Game of Thrones.

Any suggestions for old(ish) TV shows I can get caught up on that are on NetFlix's "watch instantly" list?

The new season of Burn Notice starts next week and the older seasons are on Netflix, so now might be a good time to catch up on that one if it's something you think you might enjoy.

I hardly watch TV, but Dexter is good if you're into it. My guilty pleasure is Glee. HIMYM is great (just finished the second season), as is Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. If you like HIMYM, you'd probably really enjoy Big Bang Theory as well.

If you like supernatural softcore ****, Trueblood is right up your alley. Innuendo not intended.

Edit: I knew I forgot something! "The Walking Dead" has a couple of seasons out, and is pretty good if you like zombies.

I want to watch Breaking Bad, and that's on Netflix. I'll need to set that one up. I'm not sure what Burn Notice is about. I think I get it and Breaking Bad confused a lot.

I love and miss Dexter so much... I hate not being able to watch it anymore. We used to watch Trueblood, too. I don't miss that as much. Sookie can't freaking act, and Bill's voice gets on my nerves.

Big Bang Theory is not on Watch Instantly with Netflix. I tried.

Already have the second season of Walking Dead on my Netflix list. First season was great.

Breaking Bad is about a high school chemistry teacher that decides to cook and sell crystal meth to pay for his cancer treatment.

Burn Notice is a campy action/spy show (with Bruce "The Chin" Campbell!). I'm not entirely sure whether or not it's supposed to be a spoof, but it's hilarious in its cheesiness sometimes.

About a month ago I watched all four seasons of Sons of Anarchy in a week. Great writing, great acting, and a storyline that just sucks you in. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. The first three seasons are on Netflix, I had to go to the torrents for season four though.

Archer (Animated Hilariousness), Lost (Weird Multi-Character sci-fi mashup), & Being Human (A Vampire, A Werewolf, & a Ghost are roomates.) are all on NetFlix instant & I've enjoyed them all, for the most part.

Between the serious over-arching story and the often cheesy side stories(Friendly Fire has my favorite side storyThe one where he poses as "Louis", a devilish man who can snap his fingers and make things explode, to catch a fugitive child predator.), I rather enjoy the balance they manage to achieve.

The BBC or SyFy version?

Also, there are a bunch of old Marvel Cartoons on NetFlix. I'm watching Spider-man again! Yaaay.

Also: The guns. For an arms aficionado such as my self, I'm absolutely giddy when they're mowing down on full auto or taking snipe shots at targets. Smiley: inlove I haven't really seen the show in sequence so I get a little lost on the main storyline, but it isn't so difficult that it's impossible to follow. Personally, I could probably do without and have just the little mission-a-day format and be content.

The show has fallen into a pretty predictable episode structure:

1. First five minutes, slightly advance season-long story arc.
2. Next 10 minutes, introduce single episode story line (usually involving one-time character played by former victims/villians on CSI).
3. Brief aside to check in on secondary characters engaged in wacky/hilarious sub-plot side quest.
4. Develop single episode story line for 30 minutes, regularly checking in on secondary sub-plot for breaks in dramatic sequence.
5. Resolve single episode story line. Spoiler alert: good guys win.
6. Last 5 minutes, introduce new questions relating to season-long story arc, to be answered in first 5 minutes of next episode.

Oh, this reminds me: Ugly Americans is a pretty funny cartoon. You'll know if you like it within an episode or two.

I watched all of the BBC version of Being Human. LOVED it.

Also watched both seasons of Downton Abby so far. Very cool show, if anyone is interested in that type of period drama.

I'm pretty sure we recently had the "all shows have predictable episode structures" discussion.

I'd also recommend BBT, though I haven't seen as many episodes as I would like.

Weeds is really interesting, and Drop Dead Diva is a good dramedy from Lifetime (no, seriously) that should be going into it's 4th season this summer. I think the first two seasons are on Netflix's live streaming.

For any Bruce Campbell fans that don't mind DVD only, Netflix has The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. It's a sci-fi/western/steampunk smash-up with that Bruce Campbell humor. It only lasted one season with 27 episodes in 1993-94.

Jack of All Trades should be on Netflix as well, if the lazy search I did is any indicator. Also Maniac Cop, Terminal Invasion, Menno's Mind, and a couple other ... choice ... Bruce Campbell flicks.

You should watch the recent BBC Sherlock series. Luther, too. As previously mentioned, Sons of Anarchy is pretty good, and Breaking Bad.

If Justified ever pops up on Instant Watch, you should check that out, as well.

If you didn't watch Monk while it was airing, you should check it out.
