I wanted to see this when it was in theatres, but dispite it's good reviews I, like most of the country, didn't bother. I noticed it on demand today & since it was nominated for a couple Golden Globes I figured I'd see if it was any good or not.
It was very good, perhaps the best "comedy" I've seen this year. But it's odd, as it isn't a true comedy. Really, it's mostly only funny when Seth Rogan is on screen (If you don't like Rogan, you may not like this movie though as Rogan plays himself). The rest of the time, it's fairly powerful drama. Joseph Gordon Levitt is spectacular, & 2 particularly emotional scenes of his were incredibly powerful. A movie hasn't moved me to tears in a very, very long time (In fact, the last time I remember crying during a movie was during "Little Miss Sunshine"- but that was because I was laughing so hard during the dance routine at the end). However, the scene with his Mother before he goes into surgery was epic.
Angelica Huston is great (although not in it as much as I'd have liked her to be), Bryce Dillon Howard plays an epic *****, the older actors playing Adam's chemo buddies were great, & even Anna Kendrick is endearing as Adam's flighty psychiatrist. I highly reccomend it.
