December? Ah well, it'll be good to see. The Hobbit was always my favorite of the series.

I'm so there. On day one, at what will most likely be a midnight screening. It's just too bad that it's going to be split into two movies. The book really isn't that long, it could have been done in three hours or so.

I don't mind it when they split epic movies out into two parts, so long as it doesn't seem like they really just did it to drag it out into two parts.

Believe it or not, there are people who don't want to sit in a theater for three hours, even for an awesome movie. So now, they get those people in to see it too, hit 'em twice for the two movies, and can release regular DVDs followed by extended version DVDs.

It's not that long, but it's fairly dense, and adaptable to film. Almost anything they cut out would be a shame to lose.

The trailer brought screaming back how whiny Bilbo was early in the book though. *shudder*

Though, that makes it fortunate that they'll likely truncate the early, less-exciting parts of the book.

What we'll DEFINITELY see a lot of is mirkwood. That's where Legolas' cameo is, so you can be certain they'll want to make it big.

The scene with the troll statues in LotR was only in the extended edition of the movies, so they may choose to cut that out from the shorter version. Though that'll be a shame, since it's a great story.

You'll definitely be seeing Riddles in the Dark. And you can expect the final battle and the part with the dragon to both receive way more than they deserve.

Thinking about it, I kinda feel like it should be split into two movies. Part one could easily end when Bilbo emerges from beneath the mountains, with the ring. Part two could have picked up with him reuniting with the group.

I guess the real issue is that would make part I way less exciting.

[EDIT]

WAIT, it IS being split? I thought it wasn't. Awesome! Because I REALLY don't think 3 hours would have been enough.

If you watch the trailer closely, you can see the three trolls.

Oh **** can't wait. It'll most likely come out during my last week of classes or during finals next year. But obviously this movie takes precedence.

I think I actually read the hobbit in high school now that I think about it.

I think most Americans read it in High School. That is where I 1st read it (among other books we had to read for that year of English).

This is so exciting! Are you excited, 'cause I'm excited, I've never been so excited, well, except for that time that I saw the Lord of The Rings trailer and I went *gasp* but I mean really, who can top that?

Sorry. Had to do it when I saw Sand's avatar. Seriously, though, can't wait to see this.

The best part? I've only seen the 1st 3 episodes of the cartoon and never watched anymore. But when I found this picture I LOL'ed because it reminded me of something that happened as a kid.

I don't really get excited for movies and stuff anymore, but I'll be standing in line on opening night for this one.

I'm probably a bit slow on the pickup, but it took me a second viewing of the trailer to realize Bilbo is Arthur Dent from the Hitchhiker's Guide. Cool beans!

I re-watched Love Actually over the holidays. I realized Bilbo was John, the guy of the ****-actor couple.
