"We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." — James D. Nicoll
The Christmas special wasn't as good as I was hoping for but there was a couple parts that got me right in the feels. I only hope with this the angels and silence are put out to pasture for a while.
The Silence at least should be out of the Enemy loop, since it turns out they aren't really enemies. Kind of a "huh?" moment for me when the doctor answers Clara about what they are without a second thought. Genetically engineered confessional priests, so you forget you told them anything. I guess he is about 100 years older than when he was with Rory and Amy then, but still. Poof, One of the creepier enemies gone in one line.
I doubt the Angels will ever go away. I did kind of laugh when he caught on in front of a mirror, with a little message written on it.
Matt came in pretty violently. And the pre-regeneration was pretty violent. But Matt's actual change was sudden and not violent at all.
Oh, and Jenna Coleman should have been nude as well. Not just Matt.

The angels are just over used at this point that's why I hope they are out of it for a while. You could say the same for the Darleks but I have a feeling they are going to be in this coming season a good bit. The Silence thing made me do the same, really hate how much Moffet uses the off screen events thing a bit to much.
I generally agree. The change to the Silence is a little weird, but I guess understandable. All the enemies coming back this ep is also understandable, but seriously we need to take a break for the Daleks and Angels. They're losing their "big bad" status. Overall I didn't hate the ep, but I didn't love it either. Mostly didn't like the whole turning-into-an-old-man-over-a-few-centuries-alone thing, especially coupled with the lack of any real sense of scale for all that time supposedly having passed.
Now it's time to get used to Capaldi. These doctors leave just when they're at their peak .
Oh, also the fact that they've now completely reset the regeneration cycle seems a bit too convenient. How did the time lords do that anyway.

Agreed. There was no real sense of time, and honestly no real point to it all taking so long.
Side question. Do we really need to be talking entirely in in /spoiler? It's a safe bet that anyone in this thread right now is here to talk about the new episode.

Spoiler tags required on day of air, advised but not required for the next few days. Some people might check a thread to see if others are excited about the upcoming show, not realizing that it has already aired for some timezones, etc. If it's a few days after and you post and it spoils it for someone at that point, and they decide to karma camp you, I'll probably ignore it.
I liked this episode more than the fiftieth birthday one. Storywise anyway. It does feel like they are going to give Capaldi a brand new set of long term enemies, A very good thing, like others, I tired of the Angels and the Silence.
Nice way to tie in the first episode of Matt Smith with his last. An enjoyable episode, a good end of the Smith doctor.
I kinda like how they let the Doctors go while they are at their peak and don't let them grow tired and stale. I hope Capaldi will bring more of the older professor type of Doctor now some of the darker baggage is gone knowing he succeeded saving his people instead of wiping them out. There will always be the sadness of all those he failed to save and those he had to leave behind.
