Dragonball: Evolution (The Live Action Movie)Follow

#1 Mar 22 2009 at 10:02 PM Rating: Good
So, a bunch of it has been released online. If one were to go to moviefather.com, one would be able to watch the vast majority of it streaming & for free.

So far, it has me scratching my head.

Fanboyisms aside, it appears to be, at first glance, the "Twilight" version of Dragonball.

Watching now.

edit 1- A parts is in Japanese, unsubbed. >.<

It pretty much was.

Pros-
Chi-Chi: She's hot.
Grandpa Gohan: Channeling Mr. Miyagi.
Master Roshi: Chow Yun Fat was a good casting call.

Cons-
Pretty much everything else.

The "Spy Kids"-esque special effects, "Angsty" Goku, Great Ape Goku (I would have been ok with the idea of it, provided they gave him a tail. The implementation was ridiculous), uninspired fight scenes (with perhaps the sole exception of the first one. Goku dodges a bunch of stuff and the jock types destroy themselves & a car), & the plot that "took" from the Dragonball cannon & proceded to **** all over it made for a bad movie.

Hopefully they spare us sequels.

I'd have loved it if I were 10. Since I'm not, it made me want to slam my genitals in the door. I'm not even a fan of DBZ and this movie made me feel bad for it.

The character sucked, so he did too.

Found an all english version online.
It was the WORST movie that I have EVER seen.
Anyone who has never seen the series or know what the series is about will be 100% clueless from start to finish. The story itself jumps around way too often and character interaction is extremely limited in terms of explanation/insight/usefulness.
Those who has seen the series, especially actual fans, will have torn into how horrible it is, how everything is changed, how it's utter crap and an insult to the show from under the first five minutes onward.

Marsters himself was okay but, as stated, the character was crap with reflected on him. He had the potential for the role though...
Bulma was hot and I kinda liked the flick of blue in her hair but it should have had much more blue color if it wasn't going to be completely.
CGI was... decent for a crap movie. Air Motorcycle was the best as far as that goes though.

As far as "true to DB" goes...
Goku's uniform was the right colors, the kamehameha wave was the right color, for what main characters they had... their name & sex was correct. Oh and seven dragon balls, one wish, and a dragon grants it.

This movie screams oh PHAIL!

Unfortunately, this movie looks like its going to be same kind of let down that was seen when Dragonball GT was released, only multiplied one hundred fold. A lot of people went into it expecting something good. Boy were they wrong. In fact, its probably thanks to GT that DBZ fans (at least all the ones I know) are skeptical and wary of this movie when it was first announced.

From what I've seen, it looks like its going to be awful, but to be honest, I was predicting this a long time ago. Whenever a movie is made about a series whether it be video game or anime, I try to have two different perspectives on it. The first being is a good movie in terms of staying close to the series. This is the harder of the two perspectives in terms of satisfaction. For example, the resident evil movies. Were they good movies? Eh, they weren't to bad in terms of zombie/monster shoot-em up's. Were they good Resident Evil movies? Not so much.

Not only does this movie fail as a DBZ movie but it fails as a movie in general. They would have been better off making a real life version of the anime DBZ movies and just rolling with that. Or if nothing else, have Goku fight Vegeta since Vegeta > Piccolo.

Not much of a story. I downloaded the new(er) Indiana Jones movie, and left it seeding, because I'm a good little peer. I come back home, and in my email is a nice long email from LucasFilms about the illegal distribution of copyrighted material, and that if I didn't stop immediately charges would be pressed.

So now I use PeerGuardian. Smiley: sly

I loved the RE movies, coming from someone who went to see them just for the fact that they were zombie movies. Actually, I fcuking loved those movies.

I'm going to go see DB tonight with my friend who I used to obsess over the anime with when we were in like second grade. Smiley: lol Oh God those were the days. Running around in the playground at school arguing about who can be Goku...

I nostalgia'd. I lol'd with a slight sprinkling RAGE. It was, as expected, quite a horrible movie. But God damned if I wasn't laughing the whole way through. Enjoyable for that one reason only.

Heh, same. It was nice to be there with 7 friends who were also laughing and shaking their heads the entire movie.

And wow, that Kamehameha wave (or "Kame Hame Ha" Smiley: motz) at the end... just terrible. It could have redeemed the entire movie if it had been awesome, but no... they had to have Goku flying in the air towards Piccolo after he casts it, instead of the 2 beams of energy doing the little meet in midair -> go back and forth a little -> Goku gives a final burst of energy to overpower Piccolo. Oh well, if he wants to defeat Piccolo by running in to him, what the **** ever.

Movie value: 1/10

Comedic Value: 5/10 (Would be higher, except some parts were just too pathetic even if they were laughable).
