Continuation of this thread. I decided to go with New Thread instead of necrobump. I've been given permission, because being married is a lot like being a thirteen year old, to go see it Thursday night. I was going to see it eventually, but I figure $10 first showing and $10 any other time is relatively the same expenditure, but with the added bonus that if it sells well enough opening weekend we could see an Army of Darkness remake as well. Now, initially I would hate the idea, but then my curiosity kicks in and I find myself curious what an A Movie remake a movie as campy as AoD would be, especially if they moved away from campy to "serious" horror. They'll never recapture what made Evil Dead and Army of Darkness great, but I'm not against taking the base materials and making something somewhat new.

Curious in a "cat sees a paper bag" and not "Oh my god must see awesome!" way.

Anyway, what I'll be looking for are the little Easter Eggs, like the dancing corpse scene and the cellar and such. I think that is enough to appease me as a "fan" of the original. I think a Laughing Candarian Demon Moose Head would be amazing, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

A necrobump would have been thematically appropriate.

It's been awhile, but I think both those scenes are in Evil Dead II and not the original. The Original was straight up horror (although I still giggled at the original incarnation of the rape tree, but I was like, 15 at the time). I'm excited to see it as I love good horror movies & I've seen very few in recent years besides V/H/S & Insidious.

I think I'd love to see a remake of the trilogy while at the same time get an Army of Darkness II with Bruce out of it. I think I read somewhere the director even thinks he might be able to tie the two series' together at some point, but I dont think I want that.

You know, I was more than aware the moose wasn't in the first movie and was just kind of hoping they'd stick it in, but I could have sworn both movies had dancing corpses. Memories suck. I'm still holding out though, since the second movie was kind of half and half a remake of it's own and a sequel.

They need to make a spinoff sequel, where Ash's hand and the possessed hand from "Idle Hands" team up to go on a murder spree.

One's a fastidious conservative. The other is a slovenly liberal. But now...they're roommates.

Gotta Hand It To You. Coming to ABC this fall.

I'd watch that.

Anyway, half hour to showtime, and already a packed theater. Will review edit in like two hours. Huh, apparently it took three hours. Anyway~

I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot. Like many of the movies I seem to watch you simply have to go in ignoring the source material. There were several well placed Easter Eggs, which was expected, and unfortunately they weren't the ones I was wanting. No Candarian Moose Heads or Zombie Ballerinas. Smiley: frown Though, the big one was something I should have expected. Not that I'm upset over that, as the ones I wanted were kind of silly and would have ruined the pace of the movie. If you've seen the two Evil Dead movies you'll get the references, as they're pretty blatant. It's a gore movie, but it isn't ridiculous amounts of it. At least for me. Another thing I really liked was that none of the characters were named Ash. None at all, in any way. That alone made it feel like a new movie. Both Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi were producers, and I'm pretty sure their only job was to smack the director every time he tried to make the movie more like the originals, or to put in some camp or anything. There were a couple of scenes where I was absolutely certain something was going to happen as a tribute to the previous movies, and they just didn't come. Which, like I said would have messed up the pace. Also, I must admit that while I didn't see how the movie was going to end, I also have to say I did see it coming.

There was very little I didn't like, but there was two glaring things. The whole backstory between the characters seemed like it was tacked on at the last minute. I really can't tell why one of the characters felt the way they did, it made little sense. I mean, vaguely maybe it kind of did, but there just wasn't enough in the movie to make that work. There was also ridiculously too much angst and drama between the characters in the beginning, and it just didn't feel organic in any way. Of the five characters, three of them felt entirely unnecessary. Then again, if you were going to see Evil Dead, that isn't actually all that important anyway, but I felt the original group made more sense than this one.

Definitely felt like it was money well spent. Also Bruce makes a cameo, to no one's surprise.

Here's an interview with Bruce regarding the remake and the future of the franchise. I wonder how many interviews he had given when he got to this one. His responses come across as a bit testy towards the end. Smiley: lol Though, I can understand where he seems to be coming from.

I dunno about testy, that just sounds normal from him. Great interview though. Smiley: laugh

I forgot to mention, but this was the Trailer of the Movie.

I hope that actress in the preview image dies a horrible death in that movie...

Finally saw the remake. It's certainly a stronger film than Evil Dead & has a better plot than Evil Dead 2 (which was really more of a remake of Evil Dead than a true sequal, as the previous Ash related shenanigans aren't mentioned at all), but I found Evil Dead 2 much more entertaining than the 2013 remake. I think in a post Cabin in the Woods world it's hard to play the 5 teens in a Cabin attacked by monsters thing straight up, even though the practical effects in the 2013 remake were very, very good.

Army of Darkness is still the best of the lot, though.

I loved the campiness of the original Evil Dead movies.

This 2013 movie was very well done, and the intervention was a good excuse to go to a cabin in the woods, but I didn't really care for the actors and would have liked some "over"-acting. It is still one of the better horror movies that I've seen lately.
