Like? Dislike?
I'm just about done the first season (been playing catch up On Demand) & the 2nd starts next week.
I like it. I can't exactly explain why. Ya, the copious amounts of nekkid chicks helps. As does HBO replacing the best bad *** homosexual on TV (Omar from The Wire) with a worthy successor (Lafayette kicks ***!).
But what else?
I can't really say. But overall, I'm enjoying it. Thoughts?
I was under the impression the second season started this weekend, Sunday night. Yep, hbo.com says 1 day to go, Sunday June 14 at 9 PM.
Anyhoo...
I'm liking it better than the books it's based on. Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels are okay, I guess, if you're bored for an afternoon and want some brain candy. The series, however, effin' rocks. They've managed to capture an element of Southern gothic that I absolutely love, their raunchy, dirty take on the deep South just rings so much more true (based on my experiences with visiting family in Arkansas) than Harris' kinda cutesy version. From the opening credits onward (and how seriously kickass is that credit sequence?) it just rocks.
The addition of Tara (well, not so much addition as a complete re-working of a minor and forgettable character in the books into a major player) is fabulous and it's a character I really connect with.
Oh, and I'd TOTALLY do Sam long before Bill. Personal preference there.
The downside, I have to wait till the kidlet is in bed to watch it, which is going to bite into my WoW time. He actually blurted out his first f-word courtesy of my watching the first season while he was awake (and apparently in a much more alert language-acquisition place than I had assumed him to be.) Jason yelled his
favorite word, and Tristan yelled it right back. Yeah.
