Well 3 episodes are out, and the tone definitely tends towards comedy more than drama. I also get the feeling that the key events flow less easily together. This might be a side effect of the story being rushed in the beginning. Rose didn't feel developed enough as a character.

I watched it last night to and it was kinda weird it does seem like there trying to rush all the episodes out because the characters are undeveloped or they just kinda sound weird (the priest guys voice did NOT fit imo)

overall though its pretty good the only thing i dont like is when they try to add humor to parts that shouldn't have it (when they realize the guys ring is a fake stone he just kinda sighs in dissapointment casually)

Well the thing about Rose is that in the manga, she's a minor character (in contrast to the first anime, where she was made into something more). I don't believe we ever see her again in the manga after this incident.

I do feel that maybe they're rushing things a bit, but I do understand that many people probably saw the original anime and they don't want to spend too much time on rehashing stuff. So far it's not too bad; I'm liking it. As soon as we hit the Greed arc (where the first anime deviated from the manga), I expect things to start fleshing out a bit more.

Actually, that's pretty much exactly what Ed does in the manga, so it's on par.

Cornello going all giantmonsterguy was a bit of a stretch to me, as changing people with alchemy is a big part of the darker side of the manga. I don't think they did that well.

Rose, like many minor characters in the manga series, makes a reappearance later when Winry, Al, and Hohenheim go back to her town (they don't necessarily go back together, but they all meet her again).

I just finished reading the manga (up to chapter 94) today. I love it. Unlike a lot of series that involve fighting, this series has stayed crisp and interesting. I'm guessing it has around 20 more chapters at most; however, I can almost see the "new" Greed becoming the basis for a continuation. Father is defeated, and the heroes rejoice, just to find out Greed has taken over Xing. Something like that. I'd much prefer if it didn't go that way, but it's possible...

As for the anime, not sure if I'll watch the new series. I watched most of the original anime but it never struck me as all that impressive; the manga was MUCH better. I feel the same for most series.

Although that does sound like you just generally prefer manga over anime, it seems like that would be a reason for watching the new anime, as it more closely follows the manga.

True; the problem will be if it deviates from the manga at like chapter 90 or so. It would be super lame if it did.

There's a new season of FMA that is starting the series over and will more closely follow the manga than the previous series. People are still on the fence on how they feel about it.

I just watched the first episode - I have the second and third downloaded too just haven't watched them yet. It's definitely an interesting alternative that's for sure. I'm excited at the prospect of them redoing the anime to be more like the manga though, despite that I haven't read it - I don't have the time or the money to read 90+ manga books. The ending of the movie was super lame, so I'm excited to see what they do for the revamping. I also really liked the Ed Bat, that was just too funny.

You don't have time to read the manga, but have time to watch the anime? Hmm. The manga just can't be compared to, no matter what.

90+ books that take about a half hour each to read and cost $10 vs. 51 episodes that take 20 minutes to watch and cost roughly $5 each... hmmm... The anime takes less time and is cheaper. I'm a college student and I can't afford to blow nearly $1k on manga. Maybe once I graduate and I have a real job I will over time, but right now it just isn't an option. :-)

Psst.

Since I love Arakawa I do buy the volumes as soon as they're released, though.

New chapters come out around the 12th of the month. Usually a day or two earlier though.

11 episodes in and still no slowing down of pace. Thus far they've covered and average of 1.8 chapters per episode (up to chapter 19.8 of the manga).

Redoing my earlier calculation the anime will catch up to the current manga chapter 96 within a a year of it's start (13.333 months). Assumming the manga keeps continuing the anime will catch up to the manga in 15.5 months from the first episode, assuming no missed weeks.

I'm still liking the original series better. The way they handled filler materiel is better than some of the cannon but minor storylines are handled in the new series. The two majors events nina's and hughes's deaths were handled quite poorly.

Rather than starting a new one, figured I'd reply to the one from a couple months ago ;p

Opinions thus far? Seems they started to slow down right as soon as they hit the new stuff... Still fast but seems like they did start to slow finally. I think they just wannted to cut through all the stuff anyone who knows FMA seen already (The Hughs plotpoint which I think shoulda been slowed down, the first few places Ed/Al went to at start of the Manga and both Anime series, etc) As for it eventually catching up with the manga in a year at this pace- bear in mind, I think we're at less than 18 chapters remaining? Manga is starting to close up rather nicely one chapter at a time They already killed off Lust, Envy, and Gluttony got eatten. I think they also killed off Sloth? Can't quite remember, got to go back a chapter or two... Greed is starting to side with humans, Pride has his own mess he's dealing with, an Wrath finally showed up with greed jumping in at the same time. Haven't read this months but I'm sure ***** going to hit the fan one way or another. But either way, I'm lookin forward to what the anime is and was pretty happy when they finally hit last week's ep Mustang vs Lust ftw :D

I don't feel that way. It feels about the same pace to me. Maybe now that they've stopped covering materiel in the first anime it's more difficult to see how thoroughly they could have covered the manga chapters.

As of episode 11 I calculated a covering of 1.8 chapters per episode. As of now that rate has actually increased to around 2.1. They have actually sped up slightly.

For me, the pacing is having a negative impact. For example the whole Greed segment takes 2 episodes. All of Greed's comrades are introduced in one episode and then killed off in the next. It is difficult to build the same degree of attachment to thte characters when their "life" is so short.

As someone who's never read the manga, and never watched more than 3 episodes of the first anime, I like this version a lot.

I got bored after episode 3.

Did it get better? Maybe I should go download them and start watching again.
