It could have redeemed the entire movie if it had been awesome, but no... they had to have Goku flying in the air towards Piccolo after he casts it, instead of the 2 beams of energy doing the little meet in midair -> go back and forth a little -> Goku gives a final burst of energy to overpower Piccolo. Oh well, if he wants to defeat Piccolo by running in to him, what the @#%^ ever.
Erm ... not that it wasn't stupid ... but that's actually kind of accurate to the original series. It just looks doubly stupid live action.

Can you point out the episode to me where it actually happens? It's not that I don't believe you, I just went back and tried to find it and couldn't find the episode where they actually use the energy beams on each other. Although the part where Goku defeats Piccolo does have him headbutting him to defeat him, which I had forgotten about in the original series...

It's not exactly how it happens, of course. The sequence is pretty similar, starting with the energy wave and ending with a headbutt defeat. I'm not sure which episode it is (as I'm in the process of redownloading the entire first series) but I do have this picture. It's during the King Piccolo saga.

I remember that picture!

I'm pretty sure they fire energy waves at each other and somehow that ends with pikalo in there air. So goku uses his good old head.

The episode is #148, "The Victor". There is no real clash of energy beams in the episode, which is why I was a little skeptical. Piccolo beats Goku up, and seemingly obliterates him with a beam of energy about halfway through the episode... then after a speech about how he won, etc., Goku appears flying towards him from high in the sky, and headbutts him from behind while he's still rambling. Not very epic I guess, which is why they changed it for the movie I suppose.

I love these tags. Funny we use them on Dragonball, but not Wolverine ... Anyway, I'm pretty sure at some point in that story arc there was a Fireball Wave Collision contest. They had to condense 150ish episodes into a two hour movie after all.

Fair enough. It's been so long that I definitely am not entirely certain (other than what I went back and looked at, i.e. that one episode).

And I agree, these tags are awesome.

There's already another one in the works, but I don't know what part of the story it covers.

I'll probably grab a DVD rip when they start getting released as I in no way expect this to even be worth the rental fee (and subsequent buying fee when I snap the DVD in half in shear anger). I'll just stick with Dragon Ball Kai thank you very much.

So is Cowboy Bebop the next movie anime to be ruined by Keanu Reeves live-action?

Also heard there is a Monster adaptation on the way for this year. For those of you who haven't seen it, here's the ANN description:

Quote:
Kenzou Tenma, a Japanese brain surgeon in Germany, had it all: incredible skill at his work, a rich and beautiful fiancee, and a promising career at his hospital. However, after becoming disenchanted by hospital politics, he chose to save the life of a young boy who got shot in the head over the life of the mayor. As a result he lost the support of the hospital director, as well as his position in the hospital and his fiance. A short time later, the hospital director and the doctors that replaced him were murdered, and once again he was catapulted back onto the top. But as the chief suspect of the murders, Tenma did not get a easy life. As a matter of fact, it seems that the boy he saved was much more than he had appeared to be... Now to clear his name and to correct his past mistake, Tenma must get to the bottom of these and other murders, and investigate the truth of the Monster who is behind all of this.

I'm almost halfway through this, and it's a damned nice series (albeit long, at 74 episodes). Since this is more realistic, I'm hoping they can actually pull off a good movie.

Personally, I suspect the addition of the word "evolution" to the title is an underhanded creationist tactic to fool us into associating the word with bad things. Actually, now I think about it, has there been a single good film with "evolution" in the title? I challenge you to find me one. And no, I won't except the Underworld sequel.

The 2-part episode of Stargate SG-1 called "Evolution" in which the group discovers Anubis's new super soldier project and destroy the first manufacturing facility. It's 2 hours of continuous plot which qualifies it for movie status, and if you don't like Stargate you can GFY.
