We had a JP buy gnole torque for 9 or 10m and ermines for 3 or 4 in the same day, it was pretty cool.

Meh. Our silly social linkshell does ok even when one of our members has sand up the vjj. Just had a horrible night for drops. >.< And waiting over 2.5 weeks to get into a shell? It's a game, not a preschool for geniuses. or is it? hmm...

Leaves 1 or two open spots, but I lack important gear and I'm constantly vexed on fitting upgrades I know I need.

Obvious drops are going to be any +1 hmp sh*t (lore (until you get augur), qq+1, etc), -enmity, and pdt gear. You typically don't need darksteel hands/feet/head with you all the time, and they can be left in satchel unless you anticipate needing them.

You can also leave haste gear out when you're not /nin, it really isn't important for anything else.

If you're not /sch, you don't need any +dark skill to hit your bio tier, so you can leave dark gear in satchel when not /nin.

That should get you enough room for more important things without much loss really.

Don't have whands from laziness on my part, dark gear in mog is an excellent idea and I feel stupid for missing it...
