By the way, watch your mouth when using the words "slave" and "slavish" to me, a proud black man. That's very offensive.

The Declaration was a statement, which is not really subject to change, as it is a statement from a particular time to a particular government.

As for the Constitutional Amendments, I'm not afraid of the discussion of the possibility. I do believe that the Amendments are open to discussion, otherwise we'd still be observing prohibition.

Welcome to the internet.

ETA:
I'm Native American (Wasco, Shasta and Pitt River), so let's talk about the founding fathers, shall we?

You can't just pick words at random; they need to actually mean something applicable to the situation.

You're out of practice on this trolling thing. Smiley: disappointed

Hey, you got me there. Mea culpa.

Enough about me. Let's talk about you. Where do you stand on the re-writing of the DoI, BoR, unalienable rights, and the Constitution in general? You like the idea of renegotiating the terms of our founding contract?

What's so great about your shit constitution, anyway? A musty bit of paper can't hold the government to account when it exceeds its authority, and your legal system hasn't done a very good job speaking up for it either. Habeas corpus has either largely or completely broken down, depending on who you ask and their opinion of the correct reading of the AUMF (2001)/NDAAF 2011/2, and Obama's resorted to ruling by decree. Nice job, constitution, you're really holding executive power in check there. It'd be a terrible shame if anyone modified this peerless instrument of liberty in any way.

At the end of the day, it's the polity that has to be responsible for holding the state in check, especially with a legal system as politicised as yours. If you can't trust them to change the constitution (via representatives and the onerous 2/3rds reqs etc), how can you trust them to enforce it anyway?

We don't have much in the way of myth and story so we gotta get it from somewhere. Then again, most of the people that spend so much time defending it confuse amendment with commandment.

Yep. Try "discussing" the changing of the terms of your wedding vows with your wife. Tell me how that goes.
I was told I could do anything I want, as long as she gets to keep all my money, and controls access to the kids. So basically a lot like now, only maybe with less diaper changes on my part. In the end though, I think she called my bluff realized I'm far too lazy to do anything that requires unnecessary effort.

But anyway that's progress after 17 years or so. Those founding fathers must have the country on quite a leash if we're not allowed to renegotiate after like 15x that. Maybe we should have signed a prenup?

Is it me or is that "Forums Settings" link near the top new? Near the page numbers and the search field. I don't remember it, but it's been a few since I've paid attention too.

Because, you know, great use of time and resources when this minor double post issue persists and whatnot.

I can't say I've ever double posted. Are you refreshing or reloading on the random Proxy Error pages you get when posting? Cause I have found that even though the proxy error happens (very often) it still actually posts, so I just close the tab and load the page again rather than trying to press Back or Refresh.

Nah, I push the post button, look away, and then there's two. Once there was four. Happening for months now. I just generally report them to get them removed and move on.

Never really noticed that link, though. Now I feel weird.

Huh, I actually saved a picture of it.

Being a delicious animal covered with warm wool has it's benefits if you're willing to sell out.

Well... in the short term at least.

Seattle Police Blotter wrote:
Officers arrested a man on Capitol Hill Monday after he threatened a bouncer with a homemade spear and threw a batarang at officers as they pursued him.

Police were called to a Capitol Hill bar around 6:30 PM after a man with a knife attached to a metal pole reportedly swung the improvised spear at a bar employee near East Olive Way and East Denny Way.

The man fled the scene, but officers Benjamin Timbs and Walker Dickson chased after him. At one point during the pursuit, officers witnessed the man throw something toward a police SUV. A short time later, after catching up to the 23-year-old suspect in the 800 block of East Denny Way, officers discovered the object the man had thrown was a “a sharp, black Batman-style throwing star,” which had embedded in the lower front end of a patrol SUV.

Officers booked the 23-year-old man into the King County Jail for felony assault and are also requesting additional weapons and obstruction charges.
