El Nino, it's just El Nino. Everything is fine. There's no drought in California, we're not having hot weather on the West coast either. The aquifer in the plains is in good shape. The ice cap isn't trending to an all time low. The Liberals are just hyping these things to steal your tax dollars.

They very clearly and obviously need the money to pay for Trump's coronation and to pay off critics to give more flattering scores to the movies they like and to sink the ones that they don't.

I'm disinclined to believe anything that comes out of the UN, mostly because it's consistently been used as a platform for explicit anti-American grandstanding. That isn't to say that global warming isn't real or man-made, but when a political body puts the ambassador from Syria on the Human Rights Council, I tend to discount the value of everything else they do.

Well. There's always a drought in California. Temps in the US have actually been decreasing over the last decade. But let's not let facts get in the way of good fear mongering.

It was warming for a few decades, thus it will continue to warm for eternity. You honestly haven't noticed that the language has changed from "The past 30 years of graphed 5 year rolling averages show a constant increase in global temperatures", to "the previous 10 years were the hottest on record", to "the previous decade was the hottest on record" (once the first and hottest years of that previous decade were no longer in the "last 10 years"), and now "4 of the last 10 years have been the hottest on record" (so, not the average of that set of years though, right?).

If the same measurement used back in the late 90s as "proof" of ongoing global warming (graphed 5 year rolling averages) were still showing ongoing global warming, don't you think they'd be using that? What's funny is that those graphs (and the projections I recall us arguing over back in like 2002) have almost entirely been scrubbed from the internet. You can't find them. No one talks about them. No one uses them as evidence anymore. Why? Um... Because if you used them and continued to chart temperatures using them for the last 15 years, it would become abundantly obvious to everyone who glanced at them, that the warming trend between 1970 and 2000 quite abruptly slowed and leveled off and is now going in the other direction. Well. Except for one very hot year in 2015, which apparently is all that's needed to restart the global warming bandwagon. So now, single outlier years are what we're supposed to be looking at, and not the longer term trends? Interesting.

There's bunk science going on, but not where you think it is.

It should be a good read; right up there with "the US army slaughtered SS troops at Malmedy".

I'm not the one arguing for draconic and drastic legislative action to prevent something terrible from happening. The burden kinda falls on the side trying to force a course of action, don't you agree? But by all means go google "Global Warming Hiatus" if you're curious. Here. I'll even give you the Wiki version. Super dumbed down, and full of scrambling to explain away why the actual temperature readings didn't match the projections.

The very term, of course, assumes a temporary stop in an ongoing trend. Which is yet more wishful thinking. A far better explanation is that we're seeing the high point in a 70 year natural temperature cycle which we've never noticed before because temperature measurements just weren't that accurate prior to the latter half of the last century. When you combine the fact that temperature measurements become less certain as we move back in time, and the method of estimation more about looking for a pattern one already believes to exist than any sort of accuracy, and then tack a relatively recent set of fairly accurate 40 years of data which do show a steady warming trend, one might be lead to believe that the last 15 years is just a "hiatus". Or, as I said above, it's a natural cycle, and temperatures did this in the past, but we just can't detect it. It's well within the margin of error for past temperature predictions to allow for this cycle without having to depend on some sort of runaway effect.

It does seem that as the evidence in opposition to the stock ACC theories have grown, the proponents of such have just doubled down on rhetoric. Calling people names doesn't make you right. Facts make you right. And the facts show that global temperatures have not remotely followed the pattens predicted back in the early 2000s. Not even close.

The IPCC may have grown out of the UN, but the statement endorsing their authority was independent of that. It would have to be a coordinated global conspiracy by the entire scientific community. At that point, you've entered flat earther territory.

I would also recommend that someone do this. And then read the actual studies and papers in scientific publications about it. And then... well, go back understanding that ACC is real, I guess, since all the evidence continues to point that way. Meanwhile... Global Warming Hiatus! Everything is fine!

This very link wrote:
A July 2015 paper by a team led by Thomas R. Karl on the updated NOAA dataset cast doubt on the existence of this supposed hiatus, and found no indication of a slowdown even in the previous years. This analysis incorporated the latest homogenization corrections for known biases in ocean temperature measurements, and new land temperature data. Scientists working on other datasets welcomed this study, though the view was expressed at the time that the short term warming trend had been slower than in previous periods of the same length. A review of scientific literature by Bristol University in November 2015 found "no substantive evidence" of a pause in global warming. A detailed 2016 study by a group of scientists did not dispute the Karl et al. finding that long term warming had continued, but found there had been less warming between 2001 and 2010 than climate models had predicted, and thought that this slowdown could be attributed to short term variations in the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) which was negative during that period. It had last been neutral between 1971 and 2000 when temperatures increased due to human cause. The slowdown had now ended, and there had been record temperatures in 2014 and 2015.

Independent of these discussions about data and measurements for earlier years, 2015 turned out to be much warmer than any of the earlier years, already before El Niño conditions started. The warmth of 2015 largely ended any remaining scientific credibility of claims that the supposed "hiatus" since 1998 had any significance for the long term warming trend.
Another short text you didn't feel the need to actually read before thinking it'd make a good argument, huh.

Yeah, but that counts as "scrambling". See, you find a link and then say that anything in the link that disagrees with what you're trying to project is just the authors "scrambling" from the truth. So now the link proves you're right!

Gotta feel a little bad for the family, though. Probably can't go to any real restaurant without fear of incriminating eyes when their table is called.
