Saw that on the BBC earlier, they're getting more free advertising than they ever thought they would. Also had this nice little gem.

Yeah, the idea that someone could look at that and want to buy the soap seems positively terrifying. Then again, perhaps it was just awesome they didn't have smallpox or something. People were weird back then.

A lie to cover up what he was really doing with that snake.

If the alluded to "large quantity of blood" is really true I'll be satisfied with the lie. Really wouldn't want to imagine anything beyond that. Smiley: lol

It sounds like the standard reaction to Thai food, really. I think they just scapegoated that poor snake.

Source: I had Thai for lunch today.

It's proving increasingly difficult to find a good forum to read and occasionally post in. As it stands now, this place very well may be the last place on the internet where every other poster isn't varusclone (or worse). I was going to complain about how they're all ruled by Google Adsense's G-rated vision of how the internet should be but **** **** I forgot that went out the window here some time ago as well.

So if I'm reading this right, her position is that the school should have simply refused to allow any non-conforming speech, thus avoiding the "problem" of protesters (and the resulting spotlight placed on the blatant suppression of ideas at our nation's universities). That seems... dumb. Perhaps the correct solution is to allow the speech, and allow the students to make up their own minds about things? You know, expose them to diverse opinions so that they can at least have a chance of making informed decisions about the world around them.

If her positions and ideas are so weak as to be threatened by the mere exposure to counter opinion, perhaps that's her own problem?

You've pretty much got the gist of it. And the worst part is that, while her dedication to her views is stronger than most, that way of thinking is depressingly common in academia.

We don't care about greenhouse gasses or what they have been doing. Greenhouse gasses are jobs. Jobs and profit are more important than continuing to exist.

Maybe Bloomberg's graph will convince some people, as it is pretty and tells a nice story. It's junk in terms of a real argument. Yes, given the assumption volcanoes have not raised global temperatures, we can very easily conclude volcanoes have not raised global temperatures.

A signed letter by the national academy of sciences of virtually every first and second world nation affirming ACC and backing the opinion of the IPCC is fairly boring, but I've found to be the most damning evidence.

Conservatives contest the 97% consensus study. Again, this isn't an evidence based argument that is occuring, it's a financial funding and persuasive tactics argument.

I found this to be rather telling.

It's the only place I quickly found an article on it, but basically it was a study that came out about a month ago talking about how climate change has actually made the weather "nicer" for the majority for U.S., and probably has contributed to how we view the problem.
