McIntosh groused about the difficulty start screen in Wolfenstein: TNO which features a progessively tougher/angrier looking dude and difficulty levels with titles like "Don't Hurt Me" and "Death Incarnate". It's an obvious throwback to the earlier id games of the 1990's.

The comic mocks his complaints and suggests that people like him spend so much time complaining about a game's options screen that they never actually play the games.

Sounds like half of Tumblr's Fourth of July festivities.

In fact, it's exactly the same difficulty settings as one of the older Wolfenstein games.

IA did a video on that a while back that I found rather entertaining.

It's cool. I prefer a fairly low follower count. That way if I **** off an anti and they decide to buy me followers in a false flag effort to get me kicked off Twitter(god I wish that I was making that up), I can spot it easily. Not that I engage very often(one reply, so far, iirc), but you know. Really, the account exists just so I can report people doxxing or harassing and to more easily follow enough folks to keep up to date on happenings.

In case anyone thought I was being paranoid, this person followed me out of nowhere today.

I've only got 4 followers, but I only know one of them - my son.

I've already lost random followers...somehow. Mistaken clicks I suppose.

So, from my short-lived experience with Twitter, one random follower is nothing to get your undies in a bundle over. The surfboard rug is kind of cool.

Someone selling Facebook likes isn't enough to be mildly paranoid over when you've seen evidence that people are false flagging folks you know in an attempt to get them banned?

Should I be worried about my strange follower that recommends to me Fantasy Erotica?

I've got two strange fellows following me. Both are supposed to be Sci-fi writers, but I'm skeptical of their claims.

I never realized I was missing out on so much stuff before I Twittered!

Is it strangely catered to your decidedly niche interests? If so, then maybe.

A victory! IGN updates and publishes their code of ethics!

Quote:
“If someone at IGN develops a relationship with an industry contact that extends beyond a professional friendship, he or she must disclose that to the editorial managers, who will determine whether or not that employee should be permitted to cover their friend's projects. If we determine that employee can still cover the project fairly, that personal relationship will be disclosed to our users”.

How big brotherish. Is that even legal?

Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Disclose unavoidable conflicts.
Covering a friend's projects would likely fall under conflicts of interest if that coverage is biased by said friendship. The editors are simply doing what they can to minimize that potential issue and offering disclosure where they think it's not likely an issue. Since failure to disclose friendships was a big part of what started GG in the first place, I'm very happy about that particular clause.

Lip service.

As someone who works in customer service, you should understand that and recognize it instantly. Very disappointed in you.

Oh, it is. But it gives us something to call them on later. And, when we're asked what we've accomplished, we'll always have "Multiple sites including IGN have updated their ethics policies" to go with charity work and crowdfunding a sea lion.

You're putting in an awful lot of effort for what appears to be zero real payoff. Wouldn't playing your games be a more enjoyable way to waste time for nothing?

It's not for nothing. Sure, the short term prospects aren't likely to be all that high. It's going to be incremental. Small victories here and there(and occasionally things like Gawker losing seven figures). It's going to be a grind. Some sites will adapt a bit at a time. Others will fake it for so long that they'll find it easier to just do it right. Some sites will fall into shadows of their former selves. New sites will pop up to fill in the holes. But it won't be for nothing.

Also, I have a lot of downtime where I can't really game, so that's why I have a ton of time to keep on keeping on.

If they don't put in the effort to at least appear as if they're doing some good for the gaming industry then Gamergate defaults to being nothing more than the gossip-laden harassment scandal that spawned it.

Still their whole approach is so blatantly hypocritical and exclusive one has to speculate; Are some fringe groups appealing to the gamer dedication to dupe them into doing their biding in the name of 'ethical journalism'. Anti-Semites, pedophiles and yes - documented misogynists, et. al. have all piggy-backed the gamergate cause to beat back woman and others that might have a disagreeable opinion...or simply an opinion.

Surely, publications can be called out for their ethical faux pas without this kind of war-of-the-sexes.

It seems most of their time is spent in the comments section dissing any and every news article or other opinion piece about gamergate, any of the people impacted by gamer-gate, or diversity in gaming.

Fortunately most people, gamers included aren't paying any attention to them.

Unfortunately, thanks to this scandal, Anita Sarkeesian has become the go-to feminist gaming expert. She actually has a platform now. She had an audience and she has financial support.
