Honestly, while I don't doubt a few fringe gamergaters AND anti-gamergaters are doing some doxxing, I strongly believe that it's mostly third party trolls fueling the fire.
Yeah, see, that doesn't work. You don't get to arbitrarily decide who can and who can't be a part of your movement based on how much of a prick they are.
The movement is nothing more and nothing less than the sum of people who declare solidarity for it. Whether you approve the abuses or not, the abuses ARE originating from within your movement. Because your movement isn't defined by an organization; all it takes is for someone to act in or claim solidarity and BOOM, they're a part of GamerGate.
Now, that would be one thing if the movement at large was being very loud and vocal about decrying the misogynistic language and total ******** that GamerGate was spawning, but they aren't.
They're doing the ******** you're doing right now, and trying to pretend like it's someone else's problem.
No, it's your problem. You're claiming solidarity with the movement, and are therefore held accountable for that decision. If Gamergate is spawning gross acts of misogyny and the movement at large isn't actively and vocally decrying them,
then you're still culpable for that.
Because right now, you're the ******* guy who hears about Felicia Day getting doxxed and says, "Oh, that's not us. We don't do that." instead of just ******* standing up and saying, "That behavior is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful."
Because, right now, all you're doing is supporting a movement that is actively abusive, and ignoring that fact by pretending you're not blameworthy for that.
And guess what, since it's a movement, if the majority of you would stop being pissbabies and would be that affirmative about what is and is not an acceptable behavior,
the tone of the entire movement would carry it. You CAN claim those are fringe groups if the significant majority at the core were very active in decrying the actions of those on the periphery. Because when you're so loudly affirmative,
there isn't even a doubt that the general population are just fine. The headline isn't "Gamergater doxxs Felicia Day" it's "Felicia Day is doxxed by misogynistic ******** on the internet."
Right now, those are the same headline. That's
your problem. I get that you don't want them to be. And if that's not reflective of who YOU are, that's a shame. But you don't get
any of the praise for not being a misogynistic douche if you're supporting a movement that spawns such acts of misogynistic douchedom and then can't even manage a half-assed message that those acts aren't acceptable.
No, instead, it's "Well, both sides have probably doxxed some..."
Stop being a ******* *******.
