To clarify your confusion, we consider Equality in the legal sense of EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, not true equality. I gave you a perfect example of paying someone more for having more children vs paying someone more for seniority. Both are unequal, but one is considered fair because the OPPORTUNITY to have seniority is EQUAL. As you said, life isn't fair, that's the whole reason why there's a differentiation between the words. As a society, we decide if actions are FAIR or not and as result a part of EQUAL OPPORTUNITY.
