So I'm sure you've all heard about how terrible sitting is for you, and I'm finding that I get really tired of sitting all the time and want to mix it up a bit.

The featured desk in this review is of course very cool, but also quite expensive. I'm leaning towards something more like this

It's still expensive though, so I'm currently using a shelving unit to try it out to see if I like it. So far so good, if I like it I'll convince the company to buy me one. [:optimism:]

Anyone else using non standard desks, chairs keyboards etc? Any thoughts?

Lots of people have standing work stations around here. Our ergo guy says you shouldn't have just a standing station, cuz standing static in one place is just as bad as sitting static for any length of time.

So some have just tall desks that are set at a height for them to stand at, but then they also have a stool, like a bar stool. Or some people have desks that you can crank up or down.

For the most part people with standing stations really like them for computing purposes. If you do plan on standing more than sitting get some sort of anti-fatigue mat.

I just got a new wrist rest - it's made out of memory foam. Smiley: smile

Mining coal. For optimum health, all office work should be done while mining coal. Humans shouldn't actually work in coal mines *as a profession* as it's terribly unhealthy, but the trade off to avoid the sitting death is totally worth it.

Feed a light but steady stream of carbon black into the HVAC system, hang a few canarys about the office, sit back and watch productivity sky-rocket.

I started using a Logitech Wave keyboard at work, as well as a trackball. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/8257?crid=27 The trackball has really helped alleviate carpal tunnel pain, and the keyboard is surprisingly comfortable. I am looking into getting a kneeling chair and building my workstation around one of those, but the standing stations are intriguing. I'm thinking I could do with a standing station for a desktop, with an adjustable laptop tray on the side for sitting breaks.

Aquiring a trackball for your computer is the quickest way known to mankind to make it on the list of "people your IT person at work now hates" followed closly by people who insist on turning on left handed mouse mode. I regularily use a right handed mouse with my left hand on the secondary computer, so when someone decides to reverse the buttons, argh!!!!!!

I had a kneeling computer chair growing up for many years, and I think it actually did more harm than good personally. it could just be my frame and height were not a good match for it, but it seemed to put more stress on the knees, not less.

I'm an ambidextrous trackball using IT person, so Smiley: tongue.

I use a Vertical Mouse at home and at work, but standard keyboards. I float type so the split ergo keyboards are just super awkward for me.

I literally witnessed a conspiracy to fire a Dvorak keyboard user, once.
