They had high quality digital cameras back in 1983? Who knew!

Its nasty in downtown Boston & getting nastier. Currently at the hotel for what was supposed to be a 3p -11:30p shift tonight & a 7a - 7p tomorrow, now am working pretty much straight through (with, hopefully, a nap between shifts).

Ah, the joys of being salaried...

Yay, haven't lost power yet.

Lots of snow and wind here. High tide in about an hour and a half has the coastal areas stressing.

I shoveled last night - not that you can tell now. Easiest snow to shovel ever! Twas like shoveling air.

Pictures are pretty flat but....

My deck. My front yard snow dune.

I've not ventured out yet. It's blowing pretty hard still. The trees are pissy.

Still got power, getting ready to go build a snowman.

Then give it a gun so it can defend itself.

FYI, flamethrowers are still legal to use and are very effective against снеговик.

No power or heat since around midnight. Snowblower is leaking oil and won't run so I get to shovel it all.

Fight nature with nature! Set a tree on fire to stay warm, cook your food, and have light to read a book. It also doubles as an emergency signal to the local authorities, indicating that you require assistance or the rest of the trees in the neighborhood are next.

Also keep backup paperbooks of your ebooks for when your trees run out.

By some coincidence my son had dental surgery scheduled for yesterday, down in Nyack, at 7am. As we heard of the impending storm of doom, we decided to go down Thursday evening and stay till Saturday in a local motel - my wife didn't relish the idea of being left home alone with the baby if I got stranded in Rockland county in a blizzard. Plus her friend lives across the street from there, so we ended up hanging out there almost the whole time. Thom's surgery went well, though they had to pull a tooth since it had already chipped. The snowstorm was fun to watch and drive in but no real hassle once the car was dug out. Most roads around here were perfectly clear by noon.

Well, the power finally came back on a little while ago, so that's good.

Probably the best part of the storm was watching some guy get his car stuck near my house. He effectively ended up blocking two streets because of where he was. I tried to help dig him out, to no avail. Eventually he left and came back in a friend's car to try to nudge his car out. Mind you, his friend didn't have anything with AWD, just an early 00's Hyundai Elantra. They promptly got that car stuck as well. After another couple hours of them trying to get both cars out, they left. Eventually a snowplow came by and dragged them to the parking lot nearby.

We didn't lose power. Yardstick says 22 inches, but there was a lot of drifting, we have places where we can see grass and places where we have 5 ft drifts. Our thousand year old .70 of a willow tree made it fine, but I'm reasonable sure that the treehouse I built on it is holding it up at this point.

Our OMGSTORM! petered out. Lots of wind but I guess the snow had business elsewhere.

My kid, the pizza man in Boston had to go to work Friday night. They finally shut down when one of their delivery drivers got a ticket for being on the roads. Dominoes NOT delivering.

We got all shoveled out yesterday. Today is beautiful and sunny. I trekked out into our woods. I still sunk a good 1/2 foot even with my cheap snow shoes. The little birds show up nicely against all the white. There were lots of active chickadees, finches and woodpeckers. Land animals are apparently still shoveling out - wasn't a track out there.

The fiance didn't lose power in Malden while I was stranded at the hotel from Friday until the T opened @ 2p today. A little more snow in Malden than Boston proper, but a little more than two feet overall.

I wanted to laugh in the face of every guest whom wanted a cab up until this afternoon.

Michigan's getting rain dumped on it right now. Been raining here since 2pm or so, and projected to stay warm. The map looks like it's heading to the New England area.

Yeah, that's going to be my morning work drive, except partially frozen.

Have fun.

I just got back from a midnight work call-in. It's 46 degrees out and raining still, but the nice solid hard pack that was covering the roads is now an inch of smooth ice with water flowing on top of it.

It's supposed to be in the 40s all night and raining, maybe if I'm lucky the streets will be all water by the morning, and much easier to drive on.
