As of last night, there was one person confirmed dead by the name of Sean Smith. While you might not know his name, if you played EVE online, you've probably hear of Goonfleet. Sean's handle was Vile Rat & he was a pretty prominent figure in the game. This made the tragedy hit a little closer to home, for me, as I used to play in Goonfleet & knew of him, but never had any direct interactions with him myself.

As of this morning, 4 are confirmed dead including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. All this over outrage from a Youtube video made back in July...

Tragic.

The correct response would be to locate the Libyan EVE Online Server and destroy a space station on it.

In Egypt, the appropriate response would be to increase security and have a Plan B in case things go violent. As frightening as it was for the staff at the time, a group scaling the walls, tearing down the flag and replacing it with another before being convinced to leave by the Egyptian police isn't grounds for anything more dramatic than that.

In Libya, the appropriate response is to work with the Libyan government to locate those responsible and bring them to justice. It sounds (but I don't know for sure) that the consulate building was destroyed so I suppose increasing security there isn't an immediate concern since we won't be functioning out of it. The Libyan government is blaming remnants of Ghaddafi regime loyalists for the attack which may or may not be true -- it's a very convenient answer but details are so sketchy that I won't begin to guess. Speaking of, al-Jazeera is reporting that the envoy dies of smoke inhalation at the consulate but, on the radio this morning, some US analyst said he died in an RPG attack on his car while he was being moved to a safe house.

[Edit: I guess we have other functioning diplomatic outposts in Libya since I just read that we're sending 50 Marines to protect them]

Increase consulate/embassy security in locations like Pakistan, Tunisia, Yemen, etc and work with the governments there as much as you can. This won't be solved with some over the top "America Fuck Yeah!" cowboy action.

Hahaha. Not up on current events in Libya, I see. The appropriate response is to covertly assassinate Muslim Brotherhood members in Lybia and Egypt. The appropriate diplomatic response is probably to pretend to do what you advocate.

Really, I meant "Have our guys kill those responsible while maintaining diplomatic pressure on the Libyan government to make them say 'This was totally a joint effort and we approve' regardless of their actual feelings on the matter."

You know, the Pakistan Solution.

Exactly right. The Obama Doctrine: We view terrorism as a police action. Did I mention that our police officers are flying killer robots?

I'm tired of all these overt actions. Can't we go back to cold war head-under-the-blackets duck and cover paranoia and ignorance?

Once Asia has enough middle class to buy most of Chinese goods, I'm a trifle worried. If China and America ever went head to head, Australia is going to SUFFER.

They can keep holding elections, we'll just keep pruning the tree until it grows into something attractive.

Considering past harvests in that region, I think we should stop planting foreign seeds and let the native flora take over.
