I am thinking of taking the puppy for a walk every morning. I figure she'll adjust to the routine faster than I will and will be able to guilt me into going on days I don't want to.

I agree with your sentiment. I truly am ashamed at what I allowed myself to become over the last nine or so years. It is absolutely ridiculous that I ballooned to the weight I did and that I was this close to being one of those fatties you see riding the courtesy cart in the store because I was incapable of walking around a big box store for a few items. I have however incorporated that shame into strength. I began joking about my weight a few months ago, and denigrating and insulting myself because no one else was doing me the favor. I embraced this shit and used it to motivate. Now I just need to stick with it. Can't wait to weigh myself tomorrow morning and see what I've lost over the last week. I already have additional plans to include a more thorough weight training regimen into my routine three times a week. I just need to work out a good rep/exercise plan to minimize rest between sets to ensure I am also getting additional aerobic benefit.

I didn't say so before but I wish everyone success on their journey, wherever that may be at this time.

Remember everyone, that a set volume of muscle weighs MORE than the same volume of fat. So if you are working out, and are replacing fat with muscle (instead of just losing fat) when you weigh in you may not have lost much weight, or have lost no weight, or even gained weight, even though you have actually lost fat in that time.

So don't rely only on scales to measure your progress. Look yourself over and compare how how clothes are fitting this month compared to last month. Look at your body's silhouette in the mirror. Use a tape measure. Think over how your overall wellbeing is feeling now compared to a month ago.

The first 50lbs I lost a couple years back when I more or less stopped raiding and started getting more than 4 hours of sleep a day pretty much ended my adventures with heartburn. But man were they awful. One day I had such a bad bout of reflux that I think some stomach acid came up and tried to go down the wrong pipe. Coughed so hard I thought I was gonna die.

Nah, not going to get to pick that up until September unfortunately. My parents are holding on to it. It better still be sealed when I get there >_>

Not hungry yet. My mind wants food (especially around the 3:00pm and 9:00pm stretch), but I know that's just cravings. Satisfied it yesterday with more water in the afternoon and salad at night.

Divide up your calories into smaller amounts and spread them out over the day, if it's feasible. Also, bring a toothbrush to work and brush after you eat - it cuts down on the craving.

As I understand it, many dentists are now recommending waiting at least half of an hour after eating to brush, especially if your meal included an acidic beverage, fruit or other acid source.

Just weighed in and lost 12 pounds since last Monday. Not as much as I had hoped, but I am still increasing my speed and length of time on the exercise bike weekly. I would assume that some of my muscle gain offset the weight loss.

Losing 1.5 pounds a day is hardly a poor accomplishment.

If I lost 1.5 pounds a day, I'd suspect some sort of tropical wasting disease.

Go up again, ended up doing another walk because the code I had apparently is outdated and wouldn't open the gym door. Ho hum. Biggest issue right now is that one of my tires is leaking air, so I'll end up spending time after work buying new tires for my car. Means getting home later, starting work later, finishing later, going to bed later... grumble Smiley: glare

Yes. I went in with too high of expectations. I just need to double down and keep at it and I can maybe hope to continue the same trend. The important part to me at this time is that I'm feeling better and better each day.

I despise exercise but getting a "workout buddy" - my husband - forces me to go on days I really don't want to. We managed to score fairly inexpensive gym memberships (hell, his is $9 a month prepaid for three years) and the gym is in a nice central location so after work I can swing by the house and take him there, get our workouts done, and be home to shower before 4PM during the week.

If you have anyone who you can schedule your exercise with, be it your puppy for morning walkies or a paid personal trainer, you are significantly more likely to stick with your routine.

Problem is if you're a marathon runner and your puppy is, literally, a puppy. I had to scale back my morning jogs because the first time I took ours out I had to carry him back. I've been gradually building him up to jog with me, but for a while he would actually hide when he saw me in the morning.

It depends a lot on your total weight though. It's about percentages isn't it?

Yeah, I must have been getting close/over 500 earlier this year. I've really buckled down since the start of June and there's already been a huge difference. Last week was the first weigh in at 453, so when looking at it from a percentage POV, it's only around 2.5%. That's similar to the other top losers from last week. Back when I originally lost my weight, there was a summer month where I lost around 50 pounds. At that time though, I was walking in very hilly, difficult terrain for about 2-3 hours a day seven days a week. Now I've just been biking on a stationary bike about 40 minutes a day, every day. I know I can do more and I monitor my heart rate very closely throughout, backing off when it starts getting to peak areas. I just don't have two to three hours a day anymore to workout. Wish I did because I'm really enjoying cardio this round. Back in 2000, I was four years into being a heavy smoker so it was always a chore. Now after being a non-smoker for a year, it's fun and I can actually see myself running in the future when i get to a more reasonable weight that my joints and knees can support.

From what I understand (which is close to nothing), heavy people start off losing weight quickly just because maintaining that weight takes a certain additional amount of calories itself. Eventually the rapid loss tapers off which can be discouraging if you thought you were going to lose 1.5 lbs a day from 270 down to 170.

I don't know how long you're running, but you expectations for him might be too high. One of the few things humans do better than most animals is long distance travel. Dogs will overheat if they run for too long. We used to hunt other animals by following them until they collapsed from exhaustion.
