A spin on the 'midnight' thing.

Police told people here they'd be evicted at 12:01am Sunday. That came and went. By about 9am the protesters thought they had won, and many of them that were gearing up for a fight went home. Then they cleared the park almost without incident as some were asleep and others were out on a protest march. They also asked the occupy representitives to take down some of the baracades that some of the protesters were trying to erect, an interesting spin on things.

Quote:
"Occupants of Zuccotti should temporarily leave and remove tents and tarps. Protestors can return after the Park is cleared," the mayor's office said in a tweet at 1:34 a.m.

About 10 minutes later, the eviction began.

Smiley: dubious I'm curious where you're getting this from, or if you were there. All I've read so far said a midnight deadline, and then the eviction happened within a few hours. All the video I've seen is from long before the sun came up.

In other news, a NY Supreme Court judge issued a court order to allow the protesters to return immediately. Police aren't letting them in as of yet, despite the order.

Well that only applies to here of course. The land where young people go to retire, rip city, p-town, portlandia, pdx, and such. Smiley: smile

Go go pre-coffee clarity. Smiley: grin

It's been pretty mild so far - not even down to freezing overnights, in November?

I diidn't get a chance to go and heckle the protesters this weekend, my son being with me and all. But I may have a rotten banana peel to throw at some of them up here in Albany since I'm working here for the day.

They think they're being oppressed? I'd like to see the violence inherent in the system!

Noah has worn shorts to school the last couple of days. And for a second last night, I considered turning the AC back on.

Sorry my reply of WAT? was rushed and stupid. I was trying to get out of class and couldn't respond properly.
My issue with your post is that while the occupiers themselves, for the most part are not the most downtrodden of our populace, they are there to speak for those who cannot. It's not just about fixing things in Canada and the US. These banks and Multinationals are responsible for the dictatorships that torture. They are responsible for the starving people. So its our responsibility to speak out for those people.
It can be summed up by a propaghandi lyric. "...and yes I recognize the irony, the system I oppose affords me the luxury. Of biting the hand that feeds. Thats exactly why privledged ***** like me should feel obliged to whine and kick and scream. Till everyone has everything they need."

If you want to feed the starving masses, then you need to do that. You work towards finding a distribution system that is ever more equitable and efficient. If you want to see the end to sweatshops in Bolivia, then you go to Bolivia and push for legislation to strengthen labor laws.

Sure, if you're goal is to overthrow a dictatorship then use of force might be necessary.

OWS was never intended to solve all the worlds problems, how could it? I was under the impression it's purpose was more to start dialog toward improving our own economic situation. To push for legislation to be passed, not debated on, but actually passed, enacted and implemented.

Maybe OWC needs to take a lesson from the Tea-partyers. They formed into a political party and put people into office.

I just can't see where spitting on a cop in NYC is effective problem-solving.

We had one hard frost - it killed off my basil. I've tilled in my veggie garden but was able to harvest a whole bunch of herbs from my herb garden just two days ago.

I'm hoping they'll try to do just that. Last I heard though (and I could very well be dead wrong on this) there's not a lot of money flowing around the movement, at least not yet.

I'm kind of surprised they've put up with OWS in the park for this long. Haven't they been talking about kicking them out for a while now?

It just popped up on my phone, so I looked it up and the courts here upheld the eviction of the Occupiers in Zuccotti.

Speaking of it being warmer here, last night I had to turn on my AC. It was 80 degrees in the house. Today is a different story though.
