Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918) wrote:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

So today is Armistice day in the UK (and commonwealth), and I believe Veteran's day in the US. I bought my poppy a few days ago, and should be going to lay a wreath on my Granddad's grave this weekend with some family.

What are you doing?

I don't have any military in my immediate circle (well, I have an uncle who served stateside in Vietnam) so there's less personal impact than those who've suffered losses. I did buy some assorted granola bars and beef jerky for my older kid to donate at school for shipment overseas. Maybe Alma will get my Slim Jims!

Three day weekend after working two weeks straight, so yay.

You guys still qualify for that sub-human sect. I'd throw in used car salesmen too, personally.

Neither of my parents were ever too into getting told 'thanks for serving.' I'm sure my dad will once again be all about the free meals at restaurants and other handouts though. Smiley: lol

To all the troops out there, we know what you do, the sacrifices you make so our children can grow up in a free world. We remember, and we always will.

Also, thanks for all the cool airplane pictures and tanks and ships and stuff too.

Without our armed forces, the FPS genre would really suck.

Considering how godly dominant knives are in those games, I'd say that they're already there. Smiley: grin

When work was over I drove the the Legion hall here and donated money to the Vets and ate a nice pancake breakfast.
Watched them shoot a salute after listening to a couple of speeches.
