We have a Mayor and City Council member to elect, though without any opposition. Also there is something on the ballot to lower the age one has to be for Mayor.

We don't expect much turn out today in Baltimore, since all the important races for office was decided back in the Sept. Democrat Primary.

Ohio's collective bargaining law is being defeated pretty soundly. It was around 35-65 last I looked.

Mississippi's "personhood" initiative is currently showing a 20 point margin for "No" but it's early and I don't know enough about the state's counties to say whose returns matter so far.

Is that the law restricting collective bargaining or the law repealing the law restricting the collective bargaining? Yeah... My head hurts too! Smiley: confused

The ballot repeals the governor's restriction of collective bargaining.

The personhood amendment was soundly defeated by around 15 points. Sorry social conservatives, no forced SCoTUS case for you.

Why? I know why i'm not voting for the jerks here. Why would you vote for a 31yr old academic who's most likely never held a job in the private sector?

Because he's qualified to help fix our school systems & has reasonable solutions to gun & drug issues.

Why do you think only people from the private sector are worthwhile candidates for office? Do businessmen represent all aspects of our country?

AC doesn't have a legit sports book?

Maybe, though I always thought that Vegas was the only place you could do sports betting. I just heard a blurb about it on the radio as I was getting out of my car, so it's possible that I'm off somewhere. Perhaps they want to take it away?

Quote:
The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 was passed by Congress over a decade ago. This act set out to define the legalization of sports betting thoughout the country and was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush. This act effectively outlawed sports betting country wide, excluding a few states.

Exceptions were carved out for states that already allowed sports betting. This short list included Nevada, Oregon, Delaware and Montana. In addition, Congress allowed a one year window for states that had regulated casinos for at least 10 years to pass a law allowing sports betting. The latter exception was made for the State of New Jersey.

While Nevada's legislators embraced sports betting, New Jersey's did not. The state was given until New Year's Day of 1994 to pass a new law permitting sports betting. Tragically legislators failed to get it on the ballot before the deadline, due in part to the heated gubernatorial election of 1993.

I just assumed that AC had all the stuff that I would expect from NV.

Only thing here was a primary for the special election to replace our mentally unstable representative who resigned a while back. I don't know much about it honestly. There was only one debate about a month back, and I think the gal who took the Democratic Primary won with like 67% of the vote or something. There was also a Republican primary as well, but no one really cared.

Hey, I'm not palming him off on you. Tell your citizenry to stop posting satirically as raging, bigoted American southerners.

Ohio ballot measure 3 passed yesterday, which amends the state constitution to include the following:

Quote:
In Ohio, no law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system.

Blah blah SCotUS, etc.

The most interesting part is that the measure passed with 66% of the vote. In a perennial swing state, this is a pretty convincing result.

Know what would solve that? Single-payer universal health care Smiley: nod

Anyway, even disregarding the 2010 health care bill, wouldn't that mean they (supposedly) would be exempt from paying into Medicare, Medicaid, state health programs, VA benefits, etc?

Just as a brief follow-up, the SCotUS decided today that it would hear arguments about the health care law in Feb/March 2012 and issue a ruling by late June.

Last week, another circuit court ruled that the law is constitutional (in something of a surprise decision) bringing the total rulings to 3 "yes" and 1 "no".
