These charts beautifully outline our current state of gross inequality pretty effectively.

What are those graphs supposed to inspire? More class envy? The bottom line is that companies exist to make a profit not provide jobs, rich people either worked harder, had a better idea, were smarter, were luckier than you, or had parents who wanted to them to have money and you didn't.

The federal government in the United States has over-stepped its authority and one side uses hand-outs to buy their voting block while the other uses tax breaks & loopholes to buy theirs.

In either case, the only answer that will allow this country to prosper in to the future is for the federal government to step back from its nanny state tendencies and leave most of the things it tries to do today to the states.

Your lack of imagination, historical knowledge and social science is breathtaking. You are leaving out 80-90% of the reasons one particular person or group of persons might be rich, or poor.

And your assumptions about my imagination and knowledge could choke the horse that likes to choke you.

Dazzle me then, princess. Give me the other 20 that I missed (on the low end) or didn't deem worthy of inclusion.

Better yet, instead of focusing on something unimportant and trying to re-direct the conversation, add something relevant, you insipid c'unt.

Discussion. Beyond that, not class envy, no, but class consciousness.

Is that the bottom line or the myth and ideology that we have been led to believe?

I would argue that the bottom line is the Earth has a carrying capacity and all the stuff and experiences we desire have not just a monetary cost, but a social cost, and environmental costs as well.

Beyond that bottom line, I would also argue that these graphs actually don't demonstrate that those who have expropriated more wealth from the commons have been justified in doing so. Being adept at exploiting a flawed system or even merely just happening to benefit from it is no justification for actions which undermine the survival of our species.

Our political systems are flawed. Period. Tinkering with them isn't going to fix the very real problems confronting our species.

Maybe something similar to your "luxuries the poor have" was meant to?

That's the sort of line a disaffected douchebag hipster sitting in a college town coffee shop would use. If you're not better than that we can end here.

And I would argue that the only problem this planet has is bleeding hearts like you that think equality of outcome is the right of the people. The planet will sort herself out. Nothing we can do will break her, and the population will be adjusted accordingly.

Oh, well, crap. Turns out your not better than that guy in the coffee shop. Sorry, you have no ideas worth discussing further. I now dismiss you for the ignorant c'unt you are.

One points out that people getting a free ride have enough money to pay for things that aren't needs and another points out that there are some really successful people in the world.

Maybe you're a jedi playing a mind trick, or something. I fail to see the relation.

Stoves, Ovens, Refrigerators, Microwaves (cheaper to operate than a stove/oven), a Vehicle, a Phone... These are all items which are not necessary? I mean, ****... while we are at it, how many supposedly "poor" people have electricity and running water?

You notice how all the sh*t on that list that is a high percentage (and even some low) is a necessity or something that comes furnished in a rented place to live? You don't see how that link, and this link, are serving similar purposes on opposite ends of the debate?

One's about the rich, one's about the poor. Obviously they can't have any similarities...

If we look at history, it was just about these conditions that spawned the French Revolution, wasn't it? All we need is a food crisis. (Have you seen how much apples crept up over the summer? They doubled at my local Publix.)

I don't think we're going to be seeing nobles beheaded on the White House lawn anytime soon, but the way the Tea Party is egging everyone on...

So Bill Gates has his own square? Big deal.

I'm personally in the bottom 90% of that graph, and I don't feel all that oppressed or exploited.

Follow the money trail sweetie and I think you'll find Monsanto and their lobbyists were largely responsible for the the ethanol-in-fuel legislation.

Not sure they fit into the 'hippy' category.

Is that an assumption or have you seen the money trail?

Beating striking workers, polluting public resources and fostering banana republics to create and bolster industrial fortunes. I do suppose that's hard work.

Living off of that legacy must be pretty sweet, though.

The farm lobby is the primary reason why we're stuck in the dead-end of corn-based ethanol versus importing cane sugar-based ethanol from Brazil or putting all that subsidy money towards alternate biofuel research. Which isn't really a straight left-or-right thing; you have senators on both sides of the aisle from agricultural states terrified of the farm lobby.

Factually I guess I'd modify the statement to read, "it was the corn lobbyists, not Green Peace et al, that pushed for mandatory ethanol in fuel".

Why do you hate American farmers? We all know the the vast majority of American farms are run by families living in huts, struggling to get by.
