This blackout in San Diego wasn't bad for my family and me. Power went off at 3:40 so since it was the end of the day, I hit the road and got home before the traffic snarls even started. But we did try to get to one restaurant right outside our neighborhood because it was my son's birthday and we were hoping the restaurants would have generators. They did, but only enough to keep their food cold from spoiling.
So read a book while the kids played card games or walked around the neighborhood until it got dark. They're all celebrating because all public schools (from elementary to the colleges) are closed. After it got dark, turned on the camping lanterns and hung out. And Ray's updating his emergency plan and supplies. I'm rather glad I'm married to a retired Navy vet because he just brought up some checklist in his head of what was needed to be done and provided for.
Power came back on at about 1:50 a.m. in my area but we're still under a boil water advisory so I'll be off to buy more bottled water and pick up more batteries.
But I'm rather perturbed that I missed Pres. Obama's speech AND the ******* NFL opening game.
