I'll note that you didn't actually say that I'm wrong. Strange, isn't it?

Yes, you're wrong. I've also been there. Stop talking about things you've "heard" gbaji.

I'm not sure why you think putting Bill Gates on a birth certificate means anything. If someone tries to get Bill Gates to pay child support simply because his name is on the birth certificate, he'll obviously contest it and there will be a paternity test. Should be easy enough...

How it works in South Dakota. YMMV:

SDCL 34-25-13.2. Parents' consent or judicial determination required to name father in birth certificate when mother unmarried. If the mother was not married at the time of conception or birth, or at any time between conception and birth, the name of the father may not be entered on the certificate of birth without the written consent of the mother and the person to be named as the father unless a judicial determination has been made, in which case the name of the father as determined by the court shall be entered.

My mother was 15 when she gave birth to me. According to the birth certificate it was filed 6 days after my birth and according to family lore my biological father denied paternity for a long time until he acquiesced to DNA testing. His name appears on that birth certificate so his name was entered even while he denied paternity.

So somehow my mother managed to write "any old man's name" on the birth certificate and it wasn't proven until after the fact.

Can I get my blood father's name off my birth certificate? I don't like him.

Alas, no, you're stuck with him. Shame.

You're completely wrong Gbaji. Children being born out of wedlock is common enough that there are well established procedures to deal with it. Being married or not has nothing to do with it.

gbaji's just mad that the last time he got knocked up, he couldn't convince the father to sign the birth certificate.
#87gbaji, Posted: Aug 08 2011 at 1:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) And welcome to the fact that vital records can be changed. The certificate you get is the latest copy made. Somewhere buried in a file is every paper filed related to those records. But without court orders, you can only access the most up to date version of the records which reflects any and all changes along the way. In case you're curious, this is precisely why lots of folks weren't satisfied with Obama just releasing the digital certification.
