What's the deal? Haven't seen anything about it this year.

Since my friends league pussed out and voted to not do an auction-style draft, I thought I'd see what's going on here. I gather that Proroc traditionally hosts it, but I'm surprised that he hasn't put out a message about it yet.

I can commish one if folks are interested. I'd be pushing to make it auction-style draft, though.

I'm not really a fan of auction-style drafts, but whatever. I'd be interested, but I know I'm not an Asylumnite, so if there are enough regulars, I don't mind sitting out. I'd only really be interested if it's 10+ teams. Shallow leagues are just boring, IMO.

10-12 is the amount to shoot for, yeah.

I think I might set it up. I'm experienced enough with running a league. Looks like there's some sort of Wowhead/ZAM league going up in OoT, but I'd rather do something more personal.

Personally, I'm all about the auction draft. Nothing frustrates me more than being shafted by my draft order. On an abstract level, I don't like having my team-building strategy decided for me by a random factor (i.e. "Oh damn, I'm in position 11. Guess I'm not getting a great running back." or "Oh great, I've got the Sophie's choice between DeAngelo Williams and Mike Sims-Walker). With the auction, if you target a top-tier player for any particular position you can get one. It's just about how much it costs you. Want Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady? Pay a little extra and you'll get them.

The auction takes a little longer (an extra 45 min. to an hour), but meh...I enjoy the draft anyway. A small price to pay for having the team that I really wanted.

So alright, if anyone's interested, post and lemme know. I can set the whole thing up quick if I know there's interest.

Proroc has already sent out email invites to those who were in last years and wanted to participate again this year. Send him a PM if you want in.

Ah, that's what I was wondering. Regular, snake draft, I'm guessing? Perhaps I'll PM him anyway.

If anyone's interested in doing an auction, then I'm down, but otherwise I'll probably just do a random league to get those jollies.

Varus was in the league last year, but didnt update his team nor draft his own team.

I'm interested in snake or auction. That being said, if there's no money involved, I'll definitely need a reminder for draft day. I have a horrible record for showing up for the drafts. Somehow though, I always manage to stay competitive, regardless of the sport. Although football tends to be one I somehow always manage to finish in the top 3 at worst. Baseball and hockey are a little more all over the place.

I can't bring myself to watch American Football because over half the broadcast is nothing but voice-over and tele-straters with no action at all.

It's a perfect time consumer for most of you people though.

For me, I HAVE to draft my own team. If I get stuck autodrafting, I feel like they're just not my guys, weird as that is.

There's no rhyme or reason to how I finish. I've won our league once, and gone as far down as second to last, IIRC. I probably average out right in the middle.

I have an extremely detailed keeper league, so it gives me a heads up on players to pick up short term, given the amount of research required for it, so that helps me in football. If a league has limited transactions, I'm screwed if I miss the draft though.

There's also a fair amount of luck involved. I won a pool last year. Finished 3rd overall record despite having 5th lowest points scored for out of 12 teams and then cruised through playoffs and annihilated the first overall team. My team was very consistent in scoring each week, with no blow outs or busts any given week. So, it was half luck and half research.

I'm usually mediocre at fantasy football. Baseball is where I t end to do well. That said, even if I'm in last place in football, I'm still logging in frequently and attempting to improve. It just kind of ruins the experience if half the teams just become inactive after 5 or 6 weeks.

You know, it's ok to just say you don't like it and not make up some bull **** excuses, fellow baseball fan.

Definitely. The year that I finished second-to-last, I had the second highest points scored in the league, but had the highest points-against by a few hundred over the next guy. I had a 5 week stretch where I had the highest point total of the week, save the guy who beat me each time. Nothin' to be done for it.

I love football. I just can't stand watching it on television. Same with basketball. Baseball's not the worlds most exciting event when watched on TV, but I love every second of it. The only sport I find myself getting genuinely excited over when I watch on television is ice hockey (yes, I make the distinction because Nobby still lurks and might very well link a field hockey picture of fat lesbians with sticks).

Not for football. Because, you know, I don't watch it. For baseball, absolutely. I'd rather listen to a game on the radio than watch one on TV any day of the week (unless it's the Giants, I love Kruk & Kuip).

Chris Collinsworth (who's been doing NBC's Sunday night games) is actually pretty awesome, and light years ahead of all the other schlubs that do NFL commentary.

When they show a replay, he actually points out something that you probably didn't know about the game! How crazy is that?!

I have never liked Chris Collinsworth. He and Joe Buck are in the same bucket in my brain - KOS.

Really? I can't stand Buck. It's clear he was hired for his voice and pedigree, as he doesn't have any sort of deeper understanding or perspective of any of the sports that he covers. It's like he's supposed to be a color guy that compliments the knowledgeable commentary guy, except that there's no color. Collinsworth clearly knows more about the ins and outs of football than most. He'll point out obscure things to look for, and diagram how big plays were caused by nuanced strategy or hard-to-notice actions by, say, the offensive line.

Collinsworth is useless. Doesn't know fuckall about anything he's talking about. Are you sure he's not just making **** up on the spot and you're falling for it? He makes Dennis Miller look like a football genius. I'd rather 4 hours of the camera directly on Terry Bradshaw than 2 minutes of Collinsworth discussing anything football related.

Then either you don't know football, or you're confusing him with Tony Kornheiser.

I think you need to pay a little more attention to him. Not his tips, but everything else he discusses. He fucks up more often than anyone I've ever watched. Actually, maybe you should pay attention to those tips a bit more as well, he fucks those up often enough as well.
